Dealer Car Wash?

I decided that I'm going to bring in my 2014 1LE for it's first oil change my local dealer (probably Capital Chevrolet, for those here in San Jose, CA) and I'm scheduled to have her cleaned and have Opti-Coat 2.0 applied early next week.

However, since I've been booked for my Opti-coat, I haven't washed my car and it's DUSTY. So, since I'm going to have it at the dealer, they're offering a free wash with oil change. Any tips on whether or not I should have them wash it in the meantime before next week?

Personally I would NEVER let a dealer wash my car. Typically it's done by some kid with dirty towels. Scratch and swirl city.

NO!

I always put even at BMW: no wash, no vacuum, no one authorized to drive car off lot. Just did it Saturday again.

Drain oil, tighten bolt to spec, fill up. Get your car out of there fast!

I learned my lesson the hard way by letting other people wash my car. I now have to get the swirls out of my paint. No one washes my car except me.

You should be the only one washing it. If not you, then a professional detailing shop or guy that you trust. Last resort, automatic TOUCHLESS car wash.

Outside of those options, just let it be dirty.

Nope. No way in hell. I used to work in the PDI department at a Ford dealer, so I know the evil that goes on with those washes.

Well let me be the first. My dealer washes my car with the scheduled oil changes, and they do a great job. I worked in that position when I was in high school at the local Ford dealership of all places, and I think we did a great job. Its your car, so the choice is yours, but I have been very happy with the clean-up my dealer has done.

I let my dealer wash mine all the time, there are a lot of swirls, but the dealer said it's in the paint and the brushes didn't cause it. The swirling must be coming from when I wash it.

(deciphered to mean) We messed your car up by allowing these 18 year old kids we pay about $10/hr to each your car but I will blame you for it so I don't have to pay the 18 yr old kids to now polish the car.

I would add "no fill up" to the list for my SS. They'll put regular in it and it won't run as well as it should.

The swirls are not a painting option. So i thought you were saying that this is what the dealer was telling you so that you didn't question it any more. I know my paint doesn't have swirls in it

I've seen people in Vettes, Mercedes, Porsches at the carwash scrubbing their expensive cars with the brush too. I bet they thought they were doing a great job.

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard on C5 today.

Before I knew better, I had a dealer wash my new black car after the first oil change... they DESTROYED the finish. It looked like they used the shop push broom. It was an angry moment

Funny this topic came up. I just bought a 2014 Cruze as a second car a week ago. The day after I brought it home I noticed swirls and scratches all over it. The kid that detailed it scratched the hell out of it. I'm taking it back Thursday to have it buffed out.

They'll probably make it quite a bit worse.
