New guy to Muscle! EVO --> Camaro

Hey guys, my first three cars have all been 4 cylinders. I as of right now I own a mid 11 sec stock turbo EVO IX with 27000 miles. I just put it up for sale for 27000 OBO to get a SS w/ M6. Anybody else here do that transition? Im nervous because i dont wanna regret my decision.

So what im asking is am i making the right decision, i do plan on modding it. Any imput from somebody in this situation would be great.

It depends on what you want out of a car. I would say your Evo is a different purpose car than the SS (although if you modded it enough for mid 11 sec 1/4s then that is one purpose you can get out of the SS as well.

My past 2 cars were Mazdaspeed 6 and BMW 135i but I have come from muscle in the past. I know me giving up the BMW was the right choice for me, but I think this is one descision you will have to make for yourself. If you know anyone that has an SS, talk with them and drive with them. If there are any dealers in the area with one in stock and will let you test drive, definately go for a drive ..

The SS is always best, but for a price.....If you can comfortably afford the SS, than get it, but if you never drove anything with at least 245HP, the power difference is going to be exhilirating, but potentially dangerous. Not sure if your previous cars were Supercharged or Turbo, but if so, then I think you'd be ready. The V6 is an excellent bargain and the gas mileage is superb. It depends on what you want out of your car. I prefer my Cobalt SS/Supercharged as my everyday because to gas up my Camaro 2SS is costing me close to $50.00 every other weekend. If you drive it every day, you'll probably spend a boatload more. Averaging 18 MPG with mostly city driving. Since the car is a weekend, Summer/Spring car, it works out, but as an everyday car, I hope you have a ton of extra money around for gas. Doing the SS will leave you not regretting a better powered car, but you will regret that hole in your pocket. Weigh these options carefully when deciding. Hope this helps! and goodluck!

My suggestion...test drive ( or better yet rent from Avis) before you buy.

My evo stock made 215hp where i get tuned at and ran low 13's, high 12's. Now im at 354 hp, 332 tq on the same mustang dyno, and should run mid 11's. so i know i can handle the power. I think im gonna go for a 1SS, i pay 622 a month now for my evo plus 200 for insurance, so i should be able to afford it.

That SS won't handle like your Evo though...

+1 You have a lot of rear-wheel learning-curve to potentially do. Doesn't handle anything like a FWD car.

Save some $$$ for rear tires !
Your use to HP and AWD , now you will have TQ and RWD (death to rear tires) hahah .

edit
One more thing , If you could ONLY get $22,000-24,000 for your Evo would you still do it ?
Thats about the range I have seen them go for .....

Sorry man, never owned an EVO, but thanks for the correction. Still very different than RWD.

No joke there. I came from an STi and the handling is totally different. The Camaro feels a lot more floaty and detached. You could feel everything in the STi and it handled like a go-cart. I'm still getting used to the transition. I love the low end power and the sound of the Camaro though. No regrets on the switch.

Coming from an 06 Sti the driving and power delivery feel of the cars is very different. I cannot compare because it is not even in the same configuration.

RWD vs AWD, low set vs high set, V8 vs I4 turbo (your Evo), 2 differentials vs one etc.

I say, go and test drive one and see for yourself.

Now, if you ask me which one I had more fun with, I will say the STi but, the SS is whole new mature level of fun IMHO. Without an AWD system is like you can now control the car without those nannies and will most def. make you nervous when you hammer it but, that is where the fun starts.

If I could afford both I would def. do that but, got to have one beast at home

Bottom line. No regrets. Good luck!

what ever mods you do to a 4 banger you can due to a v8 but the v8's torque in the low end is gonna be what you notice most. Just mash n' go. You will be pleased.

You probably need to give more info on why you want to change. If you are looking to out-perform your Evo, you are likely to be disappointed. Camaros look and sound a lot better though.

They do look better. I just want a change, my car may be the loudest around, and I just get too much attention. And I also wanna put it in my name, the Evo is in my dads name cuz I got it when I was 18, and had no credit. I have good credit now, and with about 4000-5000 down on the 1SS if not more, I should be able to lower my car payment a little from 622 a month.

I will be turning over the keys to my Evo IX SE with 13,000 miles tomorrow.
The only regret I have is that my car is still in QC and I will be without a car (still have my truck) for a while.

If you have had nothing but 4 bangers,it might be a bit of a difficult transition at first. My first car was my 69 Camaro so it was really a no brainer for me.

Obviously it won't handle like the Evo -- One thing I will miss is NEVER being afraid of rain covered roads -- For a while it will be slower than the Evo, but the history of the car and the appreciation from all ages and types will more than make up for it.
