They won't bring back the GT anytime soon. It would take steam out of the new Mustang launch which isn't far off at this point. I think you will see the GT350 competing with ZL1 and some track-oriented version competing with Z/28. Losing weight and adding IRS will help them a lot with that. Ford really needs to start putting some real tires on their cars if tehy want to compete. Tires are paramount on track. It's cool to see real track cars hitting dealerships again. Z/28 is definitely the current peak of pony cars in my mind. I only wish they had a more daily driver friendly version. Maybe next time around.

Nice car. But let me get this straight... a yet to be released very expensive Camaro is beating up on a used, reasonably priced 2012 Boss 302 and I'm supposed to be impressed, why exactly?

Oh wait, I know. This pretty much guarantees the next performance variant of the Mustang will be on my shopping list. Thanks Al. And to think I was considering a Porsche next.

I think they said the comparatively priced top of the line model was even slower than the used, reasonably priced one.

I think the "why exactly" was the statement that the 302 was the fastest Mustang at Laguna Seca for comparison's sake....

Pretty cool. And the obvious question is exactly the one I would have asked. Who knew? Besides Al that is.

This is correct. They "updated" the radio and hill assist in 2013, then the taillights and rear fascia on the 2014 and that's pretty much it. All ZL1's thus far should perform about the same.

I wonder what this car would do against the Boss 302 if it had 18x10s all round, and intake , headers with full exhaust and tune. Would like to see that.

Considering the distinct disadvantage that the 1LE Camaro has compared to the BOSS302 LS in regards to weight and power.

Even though historically the Z/28 Camaro went up against the BOSS 302, this time around they really are not in the same class. The 1LE Camaro is in the same class as tthe BOSS 302 LS, this Z/28 really wasn't necessary however at the same time I am glad that they made it.

well what other Ford would have like them to pu it up against? The Boss 302 Laguna Seca is Fords fastest mustang around the track. The Z/28 is Chevys.

Hmmm, I have to agree, this is a dumb comparison. What is the point of beating up on lower priced, out of date models when you know the next generation mustang will be improved. The z/28 should be compared to porsches, high end bmw's, etc, not a mustang that the 40k 1LE was built to beat.

I get what youre saying...but I also think this is an older video, and as others said, it's the car Ford has established as their track car.

I dont think the z/28 is going to experience the zl1 syndrome...where your thunder is stolen and performance is one-upped by a competitor that reaches the market only a matter of months after its own much hyped release.

Until Ford has their IRS equipped Mustang dialed in a year or two after its initial release, I think this Z will be the best road course car from America behind a handful of Corvettes, and a Viper or two.

Surprised no one picked up on this but you. My guess is that they were pulling in the nostalgia card. In the 60s both the BOSS and Z28 were built for homologation of the respective car in Trans-AM racing. Back in the day this was a huge rivalry and both cars were fairly closely matched.

Now both cars were built not for racing but to sell street (or track day) cars. Because they are not intended for the same racing series there is no common spec. Comparing them now is like comparing a GT and GTC class car in the current American Le Mans series. Both look similar but the spec is so different it is not even in the same ball park.

Gasp. ..marketing!

Those sly geese..

Even though Ford (specifically SVTs Jamaal Hameedi) isn't big on the trash talk like some..I would've enjoyed a video showing the GT500 slapping around a competitor.

As a Ford guy I see nothing wrong with the video. As I said, marketing at work. And apparently working because here we are. Though, I don't believe that many Z/28s are going to be purchased by the common enthusiast, so this type of marketing is more of a pride thing than anything.

maybe im confused....The Camaro and the Mustang are and will probably always be rivals. so it would only make sense that they compared the two. would you guys have rathered they compared it to the GT500...which is slower around the track?
