No More Than 4000 Units Over 2 Years, Track Specific Warranty.

"The Z/28 will see two years of production at a volume of no more than 4,000 units. GM will back the car with a track-specific warranty."

That's confidence!

Did any of you get this line.

He says the car posted 7:31.9 in dry testing, although that is not considered an official time because cameras were not rolling

I'd say this is noteworthy....Looks more like "limited production" as opposed to the original statement of "whoever wants one can get one"....Should command a hefty price-tag, though, with a finite number....track warranty has gotta come at a premium as well...

....No biggie....I'm not surprised at the number they will make...Only so many LS7s available....

hefty price tag for sure. If any of the local dealers by me get one, I would not be shocked if it had a markup of 20-30K on it

At most, the Gen-5 Z/28 will see 16-18 months of production, spread over two model years.

From Al's in-car discussion with Jay Leno, "1,500 per year" was confirmed. In the Reuss discussion with Loh, Evans, Lieberman and Freiburger in their round table discussion, Wixom-only-built LS7s was discussed and confirmed.

Let's hope that total number improves to near-4,000. I think the market is there.

They're not making it in yellow. Red Hot, Ashen Gray, SIM, Black and Summit White are the only colors for be Z/28.

I don't have any strong choices yet, however I could see Ashen Gray with those black OE wheels as looking pretty bad-ass and sinister. Would also hide all the clag marks ;-)

Any clue what the MSRP will be on the Z/28? I was talking to a local performance shop owner and he thinks they'll be going for more than the ZL1's.

No secret that it will be more than the ZL-1s....Pricing has not been released....guesses run the whole spectrum....

1. What was thinking behind announcing the car painted in a color that is not for sale? How does that help, to draw people in, only to eventually let them know they cannot buy what they see?

2. Why isn't the pearl white color available for sale at a premium, when it is clearly possible to produce the color?

1) With all the twists 'n turns in the body work, especially the angles from doors to rear quarters, it's a shape that appears to have color mismatch...which is diminished with the low-gloss Pearl White. Makes for a great Show Car, though, which is NOT a new reality for just this car...

2) If the low-gloss Pearl White was offered on the full line of Camaros, then there'd be a better chance of its availability on the Z/28. As was anticipated, the color choices for the Z/28 are FEWER instead of more, due to it's relatively low production numbers...

I love the car but I don't see them selling 4000 of them over 2 years. The first dealers to get them will mark them up, and they will sit. Let's figure that they will base around $65k or so. That kind of money will buy you one hell of a Corvette with change left over. If the car was priced between the 1LE and the ZL-1 they would hit the number with room to spare. If it would base around $50k-$55k, they'd have a home run on their hands.

GM may intend to only sell that amount. If it's customers ask for more, they'll give them more.

Little known fact that has not been released,(Little birdie told me that's close to GM) The ZL-1 was only suppose to have a 2 year release of 500 cars per year with the 3rd year of productions over 1500. Now we see that they make as many as demand needs.
GM is in the business to make money, not to put out limit number cars. That's just a bad business model.

I will be surprised if GM makes 4,000 Z/28's. I see production hitting around 2,000 total. Most of the Z/28 buyers will be collectors or hardcore track enthusiasts.

GM would be in deep sh## if they sold that Z/28 for 55,000 or in the middle. That thing was more than that just to make.

Agreed, and there simply aren't enough hardcore track guys to buy 2000 a year. Hardcore track guys with $60k to burn, are going to snatch up a used Z06, or a brand new C7.

I don't know how much it costs to build a new Z-28, I doubt anybody will ever get that information. I just look at the price point of the Z-28 and what you can get within the GM family for similar money. Comparing it to a ZL-1, the ZL-1 has more power, 1000x more creature comforts, better street manners, and very similar on-track performance for $10k+ less money. Comparing it to a new C7 with the handling package and it's game over for the Z-28. The 'Vette will beat it in nearly every performance category, be more civil on the street, get better mileage, and do it for $10k less as well.

I love the new Z-28, I just think it's suicide where they priced it. The Z-28 has ALWAYS been a working mans Corvette, priced for the middle class blue collar guy. Now it's way out of that range. I've owned 6 Z-28's through the years, I doubt I'll be able to afford a new one again.

As mentioned above, the LS7s built for the Z/28 are ONLY from Wixom (which was extended for this build ONLY), NOT from Bowling Green. The limited number of engines is your "maximum" answer.

GM's forecast probably thinks it will only sell 1500-2000 a year so when they make their budgets etc they are planning on only selling 4000 units.

Now if demand hits 3000 in 2014 im pretty sure GM will plan on 3000 units for 2015.

Keep in mind this is a hardcore car - no a/c, no radio, tires that will wear out after what 5000 miles of driving on the road and cost about 2k+ replace. Most enthusiast will walk past the Z/28 to the ZL1 if they have 0 desire to track the car.

2014 is probably out of the question but i will be getting my financials in order for 2015 MY Z if it is south of 70k. The other great thing is that 4000 units should keep gouging low from dealers (hopefully)
