Is anyone else dissapointed by the V6 ENGINE COVER ??

I know as a product planner, it is important to make sure that your upper-level trim parts are "apparently upper level"..... And therefore with the V8, being the premium engine option, it makes sense that the engine cover is nicely designed and detailed. But being the new CAMARO, arguably the most successfully designed car from GM in recent memory....
WHY IS THE V6 ENGINE COVER SO LAME ????????

As a designer, I hate the fact that my the V6 engine cover looks like a generic plastic cover pulled off the shelf. Would it have hurt to put some embossed lettering, or graphic detail on it like on the LS3 ??

All it is is a thin piece of plastic..... so why jip the V6 buyers??? IT IS THE NEWER ENGINE AFTER ALL.... SO IT DESERVES A DECENT COVER!!!

If there are enough of you fellow CAMARO owners (or owners-to-be) that agree with me on this..... then I might just put my idea into action. I want to design a custom, nicely detailed engine cover to make the V6 look just as badass as the V8.

WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A NICER, MORE DETAILED V6 ENGINE COVER if I were to get it manufactured???? Am I the only one bothered by this???

Let's see what you come up with...you might get more interest if people see what you're offering.

right now its just an idea. If im the only one that is bothered by it.... then im just going to end up painting mine custom. But if its not just me that feels this way..... then a design exploration would be warranted :-)

I think the engine bay looks better with the cover off.

Nope, I like my V6 Engine cover and so have my friends when I pop it off to look at the engine.

Me too, infact I was very impressed that it looked that nice, just my opinion though! Never had an engine with an emblem on it before!

Engine Cover

I went done and got some Krylon plastic red color and plan to paint it like the after market V8 ones. I'm just waiting to see when my Cold Air intake to comes in to see what it looks like for the V6. I'm hoping it will be Red with the GMPP chrome intake cover. Vin# 06025

If I end up buying a Camaro, I'm getting a Cadillac engine cover (it's the CTS engine after all). I'm a Ford guy, so it'll take the edge off of having something with a bowtie under the hood. LOL

I think it is fine, if anything disapointed me was it is the same exact one with the Cadillac CTS.

However with my mods I think I'll be fine with it!!!

All of GM's engine covers are lame. They're nothing more than plastic slabs to hide the engine so they don't have to bother making things look nice. This is how you do an engine cover:

Notice the beautiful heads are still visible. Nothing is hiding under a cheap plastic blanket. The cover is only there as trim, like a picture frame.

I don't have my car as of yet but when I looked under the hood of the 2LT that I test drove I did not like the engine cover. I would be interested in another that would dress the engine bay up a litte more.

fwiw, the engine cover is identical (swap the bowtie for a crest) to the one used on this engine in Cadillacs.
Take it off or replace it if you want...just be thankful they didn't pass the engineering/designing costs of making the engine look "pretty" on to you.

Just curious...how much does that thing cost? j.k.

I like the stock cover, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to find something I like more to customize it. Most that I've seen are only V8 for now, understandably. Hopefully they'll come over to us soon.

I had two guys at a car show arguing over the cover. One said it was a V6 and the other said it was a V8 and he told him to count the notches, lol.

Dragon, my point is, the cover enhanced the engine. It didn't hide it. The V6 cover especially, but the V8 as well, are little more than plain, slightly sculpted blankets of plastic that hide stuff. They're almost like a second hood. And no, I wouldn't mind a few development bucks spent on a neatly arranged, presentable engine bay. I'm not opposed to quality design and workmanship.

Meh, neither am I, I guess...I suppose they did the Corvette's engine cover pretty good. No, I don't suppose -- I really like the Corvette's engine bay.

But that Audi...It's stunning, but I dunno...all that for something hardly ever seen? Not worth the money, in my book. Though I certainly understand what you mean.

EDIT: This is the factory Vette...and a quick dress-up kit I found. Looks HOT, imo.

If the design you create adds some pizazz, I'd buy one.
Also, I think I would paint mine in the mean time if I could figure out what paint to use.
I'm not sure that the plastic paints that are made for patio furniture will hold up to the heat under the hood. When I've checked the cover after driving the car it is quite toasty.
High heat paint made for engine parts does not seem to be compatible with plastic. So, there's my dilemma.

The stock black plastic looks just OK - I'd prefer a silver cover as seen on the pre-production cars, unsure if those were painted silver or they were metal. IF I went to replace I'd look to find one of the silver versions.

I have been thinking about removing the stock cover for now. Unsure if it helps keep the hood liner a little cleaner than if running open - I really like the indented bow tie in the hood liner and want to try to keep it clean.

I've taken mine off with the intent to modify or paint it. I'd definitely be interested in a customized cover for this LLT High Feature V6 engine.
