Shorty headers: ARH vs. JBA?

Thinking about getting headers. In California those are the only two headers that are legal. Any experience with either of them? Preferences?

Hoping to avoid a thread of 'get LTs', but if anyone feels strongly that shorties are indeed a waste of money, that feedback would be good to know as well.

Thanks!

They're a waste of money, but if you insist on them I'd go ARH. You're better off getting the LTs and just removing them for smog.

The ARHs seem quite a bit more expensive (~$1,075 vs $675 for JBA). Any idea why?

I believe ARH is made in the US and JBA isn't.

This. The JBAs probably aren't 304L stainless, which means that they rust.

No question, ARH. Higher quality and stronger gains. Then bolt up a set of Solo high flow cats behind them.

Alas, fairly certain Solo cats aren't CA-legal, but would be happy to be proven wrong on that. Any measurable gains for ARHs sans high flow cats? Maybe 5-10 hp?

Does ceramic coating offered on the JBAs bridge the gap? Price I quoted was for titanium or silver coated I think.

Coating will not add any HP and will not fix the issues of the cheaper stainless on the JBAs. Go ARH LTs or ARH shorties.

Guys, Our shorties are far more equal length, have merge collectors with scavenger spikes besides being 50 State Legal. They are 304 S/S and will last indefinitely. They also come with ARH spark plug sox and Grade 8 hardware. We were awarded a US Patent for the unique design.

For those that aren't aware, we also have 3" downpipes with our 49 State Legal cats that are a direct fit to your catback. ARH is not in the business of offering anything that's "a waste of time". Our shorties make considerable power and torque over stock or we wouldn't offer them. If you're in an area where you have to be legal, we believe this is the single best option when only the best will do. Feel free to PM or call me with any questions. Thanks.

Nick

We put a set of arh shorties on a tt 2010 and they are a work of art. Very nice for a shorty header.

Everything ARH makes is a work of art.

Trust me, I know. We have a set on our personal car and I've installed dozens of them. Their quality is top notch and make great power.

See padres build thread on shorty headers...he has experience with them. He had jbas and says they work great.

This. Coating will help cover up some issues but it can't fix design. Solo cats help but they are not deal breakers. You should see 10+ rwhp with the ARH shorties alone.

No kidding. And that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problems with California.

I have the ARH shorties with Solo high flow cats and it is a nice increase. Would be better with a tune as some of the forum members were getting ~35rwhp with shorties, high flow cats and a tune. The high flow cats are not legal in California, but they are pretty quick to r&r for smog. 1-1/2 hours. Without high flow cats you will not be getting much. JDP can get you a pretty good deal with no taxes and free shipping. And for the rest of the country, unfortunately, as California goes so does the rest of the country. Unless Texas secedes.

SS Panther, do you have a video of how your car sounds with the ARH headers, and the Solo high flow cats? I just ordered my ARH shorty headers and I have the Solo high flow cats as well. Just looking for a gauge on sound.

Thank you for that! Sounds really good, so my NPP exhaust should sound pretty decent with them.
