Advantages of have 3in exhaust over 2.5?

What are the advantages and disadvantages (if there is any) of have 3 in exhaust over the 2.5 inch exhaust?

Sorry if there is already a thread about this.

It's a different sound for starters... if your going boost it gives you more breathing room. However plenty of people run 2.5" no issues even in high HP applications

This. Unless your running boost your just tailoring the sound you want and looks too if you don't like the factory muffler look from the rear.

This is a great question. We have run the 2.5" ARH muffler system in the 8's on the Camaro5. There are some big differences between the 2 diameters concerning drone.

Please elaborate. 3"=more drone? Also, if you had header drone and just Solo axel-backs could you "tune-out" the drone by adjusting the J-pipes?

Maybe someone from Solo could chime in here.

3" Systems don't equal more drone. The biggest difference between a 3" system and a 2.5" system is the tone. A 3" system will be deeper and a 2.5" system will be a bit raspier. On a near stock vehicle it won't make a ton of difference there either. If you plan on running past 750 rwhp I'd recommend a 3" system....if not choose what you think sounds best.

Drone is a product of your complete exhaust system so there is no such thing as header drone. Drone is just a low resonance frequency that happens at a certain RPM. Headers may cause drone but if the complete exhaust is set up right your car won't drone. Solo is a great example of a system that is set up right and yes their J-pipes are adjustable. So if you added headers down the road and get some drone you can eliminate it.

A guy on here with a supercharged SS went from a 2.5 inch to a 3 inch exhaust and gained a significant amount of HP. I think somewhere around like 20 or more. On a NA application it won't really do much. But you'll feel more badass when you say "3 inch exhaust" while naming all your mods!!

Deeper sound. Headers HFC'S and flow master AT. I cut the end off the cat back welded on a pc of 3 inch stainless. Loved it. Now with cam love it more. 3 inches all the way back from 3"kooks. Can't hurt.
