Almost got killed over a door ding?...are you kidding me!

So im sitting there clearing messages off the phone, when i feel my truck move.I looked in my side mirror and saw a guy walking to the entrance. The 1st thing i thought was he hit my truck with his door, but i gave him the benefit of doubt and figured his body must of brushed up against my truck. As i watch him see their closed and walk back to his car, i watch him open his door and ding my car again.

I get out and say "Dude what the phuck you hit my car twice"to which he says my truck is a piece of *hit, and then pushes me. Before i can even process what happened, let alone defend my self the other 3 doors open and the car unloads,i think uh-oh this is going to be bad.2 of the people grab him and push him into the car,the guy from the front passenger seat comes to me and said "get in your car and leave"he wasn't being an ass,he was actually nice,as well as the lady driver who said sorry sir,she was sincere and said this twice.

So i drive away,as they did as well. Now this wasn't them saving him from me,we were evenly matched, this is obviously a bad guy(or as i say a piece of *hit!!!)so he either had a gun and was going to shoot me, or a knife and stab me.I thought about calling the cops,as i was in a upscale part of Orange Count Calif. and the Tustin PD would of been all over this.I sure am glad i wasn't in my Camaro or this would of been a different story,i guess if i was still here.

I want to say whats wrong with people, but we know they suck!

You really never know with people these days. That's why I live by this saying, walk softly, and carry a .500 Magnum.

The correct response would have been to immediately get out of your truck, walk to his license plate and write it down (AND MAKE SURE he see's you writing it down, or taking a picture of it.)

Then call 911. That is what I would do.

I would say some guy just dented my car and I want to make sure he fixes it and make sure he has insurance. If he doesn't, usually the cop will give THEM a ticket.

Optional: Take a video or picture of the guy as evidence as to who was driving the car when they hit your car.

In theory this also would look like a "hit and run".

But if he TRULY was a scary person, then it may be best to NEVER park in an actual parking space.

ALWAYS PARK in such a way that no car can actually park beside you. Or park a mile away INCLUDING AT 4:00AM at McDonalds.

ALWAYS park where you truly feel NO ONE would want to park near you.

That's what I do. I don't mind walking 500 feet.

that is 500 feet away from the complete PSYCHO you saw that morning.

and that's the real reason you should park far away also.

It's not just because of dents.

This is the route I would have taken also.

Glad to hear you were okay, also glad to hear it wasn't your Camaro!

Sorry to hear that happened.

But... Tustin police couldn't do anything when I got shot in the neck on the freeway, I doubt you would've had better luck.

Call 911 over a door ding...and calling it a hit and run...seriously? The police have much better things to do than respond to that non-emergency and they won't even fill out a report for damage under $250...so good luck with that one!

The OP did the right thing and lived to tell the story because of it.

All correct except for two things, call dispatch and not 911, and it would be considered damage to private property not a traffic accident

A door ding can easily be more than $250, depending on how hard it was hit.

I got one on my crease very recently, have not gotten the estimate yet, but the paint came off on it. I talked to a reputable shop about another spot on my car. From that experience I'm assuming that when I talk to him about my door ding we'll be looking at around $1000 considering they'll have to repaint most or all of the door. And it's not that easy either. They'll either not paint the whole door and fade on the door, or paint the whole door and do the fading on the fenders which will probably cost more.

Every state has different laws. Here that I guess could be considered a leaving the scene. You'd have to get the license plate and a good description. If properly registered police could find the owner of the car eventually... Finding them with the dude who did it would be slim.

Here our dispatch has call takers than dispatchers. So it takes a good 5 min or so for us to even get the call. Unless it's insanely seriouse then we get half has info (had a robbery of a damn dollar store last night shift. We just got the robbery call. Then a few min later they added the gun part. My lt got on scene and have us suspect/vehicle info)

If that dude is that shady and that dumb they'll get caught doing something.
