Very nice, is it an automatic valve body? If so, I could manually hold out the shifts they happened to fast by manually shifting.

Stock valve body, but I shift myself. I can hold second as long as I want, but first gear is shifting second at 6200-6300 by itself! I guess it's because I dont have 12 volts going to the trans. I talked to a guy at the track that told me to hook that wire up ad it will let me hold first like I can hold second.

My olds only spun to 5800rpms so I never new it would even shift without me doing it till now! I figure I should be 6700-6900 going into second, as a 7k shift into 3rd is what got me 117 traps! So I am definetly short on 1-2 right now

Great times! I have an old th-350 with a reverse manual valve body sitting in the shed. Never thought of putting it under my 5th gen. 3 speed ftw!

Dude I would run that th350 all day!! It would be even faster, the th350 had 2.58 first gear if I remember right! I love this swap, I wish I could gear it up more but I don't want to kill my drivability as its still good. A 4.10 would put this car low 11s easy, but I just don't want to go down that road again.

There is a small screw inside the modulator valve you can adjust if you
want to mess around with shift points. Its been many years ago since I ran a th400
but you may not be running a mod valve....just thinking back.

Stupid trans is short shifting itself into second early because I don't have the 12 volts running to the trans I guess. But man she's running awesome, I am able to hold 2nd as long as I want, shifting it at 6800. Need to get 1-2 worked out, might have 11.6!
Hi 12 volts is just for down shift. If you have the trans in drive and put it to floor and it is short shifting itself into second. Need to work the governor weights /springs.
A quick test to check. Put power wire to kick down on side of trans. With switch and drive it.

400 plus gear vendors OD vs 4L80? Still cheaper with the 400 plus gvod? Honest question.

I put the trans in first gear, and would like to hold first till I want to shift. What happens now is I put in first, and it goes into second with my shifter still in one. So what I need to do is mess with the governer?

I am not sure about the gear venders, I don't have any plans on running one as the car as is drives great. I might decide to step up to 3.73s when I get a truck, but really I can still drive 70mph with the 3.45s, it's a good setup for a street car. Pretty sure I will get in the .5s with this setup and when I am ready to put some REAL power down, it might be better to actually have this gear.

Yea, if you start making a lot more power like you want the gear would probably be better. Or atleast easier to launch, not necessarily better. Thats why I figure I will stick with 3.45, I was thinking about the 3.91's before I bought my maggie but I think with the power down low its going to be hard enough for me to launch already .

Your seriously making me want to run my car with the TH400 before I install my maggie. It won't happen as the maggie will be going on once I get it back from magnuson.

Can't wait to see how it does once you get all the bugs worked out. Any more track days this year?

I wish I could but tracks are closing now! Possibly might be able to sneak one in, not looking good.

I still have these 275 steam rollers up front to! I need to at lest go back to 245s, I beat that alone would have had me in the 11.60s with a higher trap. Along with 1-2 fixed it would be crazy to go 11.5 with what I have into the motor right now.

Ya if your going Maggie don't change gears! That should make some crazy power down low, 1.5 60s I bet, maybe better!

Good luck bud, come swap time just let me know if you have any questions. Remember to use a stock trans mount from a truck. And drop the crossmember down about a 1/4" too.

I <3 Torque

My dad has a Vega, got it out racing for the first time in 10 years this year. New engine so there has been a lot of problems. But he is getting 1.4 60', which is much better then with the old engine. Im half tempted to get the rear overdrive pulley for the maggie so I can beat him while his car isn't 100% lol. There is no chance for me to get him if its running like It should, he's going to dial it in to run a 10.0 but is making enough power he could run high 8's low 9's. Must be nice having a 2600lb car

Im going to switch to some Mickey Thompson ET Streets this year, I had a set of NT05R's and didn't have much luck with them. Or atleast not as good as I should have been IMO. Just waiting for the day I stop spending money else where and get me a set of 17's and run skinnies and slicks.

The NTO5s are sticking like glue for me, but when I had the m6 they were still spinning even with a 1.8 60ft. I think these tires are great if your gonna run auto, but for a manual a slick is the best way to go. What motor you guys running in your dads car? Sounds like a monster!

My plan now after letting this soak in... Gonna do ported and milled heads, ported intake, front skinnys and rear drag bar. I might actually push for 10s on the stock short block and stay N/a.

Yea, it will be a while before I get the money to buy the rims so Ill just be running the ET Steets.

Its a 540 with a powerglide behind it. He only had it to the track 3 times this year. First time he went he snapped his axle the first time he tried leaving off the transbrake, cleanest broken axle Iv ever seen. Sounded like a gun shot going off. But its been missing and carrying on at anything around 5000rpm and up. running 11.0's and had 1 10.70 pass, gotta baby it down the track

Great job, I knew the TH400 / Converter would gain you 4-5 tenths. A bit more fine tuning and you should easily see 11:50s with that mph. How is it on the street?

Interesting, I've had MVB's in cars, and auto ones too. Another car I have has TH350 auto valve body, and if i shift it manually it does not go 1-2 unless I clicked the shift.

Stock bottom end 10.9's sound good Mike, I might go for that too.

I went 1.70 on my NT05R's at Byron the weekend before, but I had to load up the rpms and roll it out not flashing the converter cuz then it would spin like a mofo.

I'm thinking of doing 17x10 + slicks next year if I could have flashed the converter I would have went 11's SI and low 1.6 short times I think.

Congrats again we need to meet up for racing next year bud.

Funny thing is I can hold 2nd gear to 7k! Ya I think 11.50s is totally there, I just need to dump these 275s off the front. It's actually really good on the street and highway, I can still go 65-70 on the highway no problem. I only used a 1/4 tank on a 1.5hr drive so gas mileage is not all that bad.

This trans swap changed the car so much, I thought I would miss the m6 on the street. I don't miss it at all, I love this setup on the street! Feels like I am driving a real muscle car now!

Hey John, yes we need to meet up this spring for sure! Your probably hits the tired allot harder then mine with your gearing! I wasn't even close to spinning, my best 60 was 1.74, I should be able to get it down to 1.70s with some seat time.

I think low low 11s maybe 10.9 is possible now. Yes that would be sweet man, I can't wait till next season already... Stupid winter!

Im needing to fix the 1-2 shift also. It shifts by itself at 6200 with the shifter still in 1st just as yours does.

A manual Valvebody should fix the problem.
