Took my ZL1 to the track. Pleased with the results

First run of the day all stock M6! Going for 11's next run. Just need to improve my launch a bit! I'm in the left lane.

Your 60 foot time tells me you easily have a bone stock 11 sec car. That's sweet.

I was thinking that 60 foot time was pretty good for stock tires. Better than I usually run. Good job!

My 2nd and final run was also a 12.1 at 119 with a 2.03 60ft. No 11's for me this year unfortunately. Not sure of the DA today but the temp was 53* for the first run and 55* for the last one. The second run was against a '13 5.0 with some bolt ons and DR's. I'll post that slip after dinner.

Here is the other time slip against the bolt on 5.0. I didn't make the 11's but it feels good being consistent lol

Thanks guys! I just wish I could have gotten a 11.999. All and all it was a great day. I now have no doubts at all about the 1/4 mile capabilities of these cars. Next year I'll have a few bolt ons and some drag radials so 11's should come with ease. The formula I used today for these times was aired the rear tires down to 27 psi, did a mild 1st gear burnout, then held the revs to 3k and quickly released the clutch with a slight slip. Once the car was hooked I quickly pushed the go pedal to the floor. I think the most challenging part was shifting out of first gear before rev limiter kicked in.

Nice run. I think the idiot from top gear should give you a call for advice on how to drag race.

You def have a 11 second car. That trap speed says it all. Just work on the launch and you'll have it easily. Very nice runs though

The launch in the M6 is the toughest part. Too much rpm and you slip or bog down the engine with traction. Not enough rpm and you are just slow. Even with my DR my best 60ft is a 1.82. If I launch over 3000 rpm the engine just bogs. Even with all the nannies off. I am hoping that with a tune the engine and torque management won't kill the 60ft time. My best run is still an 11.95 at 120.2 mph. That is with a roto-fab and vmax throttle body and drag radials. The automatic guys have it so nice at the strip.
Hoping for low to mid 11s next year with headers and JRE 75 hp package.
Good luck on your 11s next year.

What kind of drag radials are you running? I'm pretty sure my first purchases will be the 75 hp kit and tires. I'm still debating on what kind of tires I want. I thought about just buying some zl1 repro wheels from ebay and the 20 inch Mickey Thompson's. Not sure yet...

nice runs. I am going to MIR on Saturday with a group of ZL1s to see what is happening on the launch. 2.03 is o.k. for a 60' but it should be much better. Get it into the 1.8's and you will be 11.7-11.8.

I totally agree. Unfortunately I don't think I'm a good enough driver yet to get a 1.8 60. With some practice I'll definitely be able to improve on the 2.03. These cars are beasts to drive!

we understand it perfectly but most of us like to drive the car rather than just steer it. id never trade my manual for a couple tenths of a second at the strip.

Yeah the m6 is more of a challenge. But to me it's more gratifying... It's like taming a wild animal haha. I definitely prefer a manual in a muscle car. Just my humble opinion.

I have Mickey Thompson ET street drag radials. 18" tire size. No issues with clearance on the Z. On my SS, I had to tie back the e-brake cable. They hook great and only need a little heat. Drove to and from Englishtown raceway two weeks ago on them. About 160 miles round trip with no problems. Usually my friend takes them for me in his trailer, but he raced his Camaro that day also.

I enjoy learning the launch technique and shifting style when racing. I have the launch down good, now it is timing it with the lights for a better reaction time. My other drag car is an automatic and so is my Nova. For the short amount of time I spend on the strip compared to regular driving, I prefer the manual.

If driving it to and from the track on the DR, I would recommend the 20" radials just for the ride and less tire roll in turns. Even with the pressures at 35, it feels a little unsure while in faster turns on the highway. I just go a little slower.
