DIY car ramp

If you don't want to spend the couple hundred bucks to buy the low profile car ramps then build your own!

Anybody build the ramps yet? How much was lumber? I plan on building them in a week or two. I think I'll just buy 3 2"x10's and shorten the distance between each section. Per the plan you'd need 34' of wood but I think I'll modify them a tad.

Great idea! I guess having a Mustang that breaks down all the time makes for some serious inspiration!

Keep us posted on the latest lumber prices. I'm guessing ~$60 for everything. And yes I just made up that number...

I wonder how heavy these ramps will be?

I just bought a 12,000 lb set of ramps at Autozone. I used a $10 discount coupon and got them for $35.00.

Can you actually get the Camaro on top without it scraping? If so, what's the model/type??

I don't know yet since my Camaro hasn't come in.

BUT I can get my Honda Accord with bottom trim package on it so I figured the Camaro would fit.

By the way lose the blasphemous Avatar. Not cool. Unless you want to spend an eternity somewhere nice and hot.

Thanks for the details! Looks like I'm heading to Home Depot today (and of course the store for that six/twelve pack too).

Just got back from Home Depot and built me sum ramps!

2 - 2x10x8 = $11.14 ($5.57 each)
2 - 2x10x10 = $13.38 ($6.69 each)
4 - ice cold beers = priceless

How I did it: I cut the base out of the 10' long pieces which are 78" long. The left over piece is the 42" piece for the 2nd level. I then cut the 60" piece from the 8' long board and the remaining is used for the 24" piece and the stop that goes on top. Be careful when screwing/nailing the stop in place. Since it is only 3" wide, drill it before securing it down so it doesn't split. I nailed each piece except for the stop. I screwed down the stop in case I ever need to replace it or add another level to raise the car higher. I also cut each end section at a 45 degree angle just to be fancy. It is definitely heavy duty! I'll probably add a small piece of wood to the end so that I can pick it up easy as well as store it on its end against a wall so that it'll lean.

Cheers!

Here are some pics. The first is showing the top part with the stop and 45 degree angle cut. The second is of the completed ramp.

Wow those are some BIG pics...and that's after I compressed them!!

One other recommendation; watch for stinging insects when constructing these ramps. When opening my garage door, a wasp came out of nowhere and stung me on the ear! Had to have a few extra beers to numb the pain.
