All you say is right on the mark, but i have never liked the corvette, its a 2 seat car and the camaro is a 2+2 car, for me this car is more then a car its history, going back to a time when US cars where king of the hill, names that changed the car world.

To some who say its over priced i dont agree,There are lots of new parts, that costs a lot to R&D, when you add all the time spent, and add that to the car, you see how they came to the price.

This is a ones in a life time car, after the 5th gen is done there is only the units made, so get it now or........ :(

Well I have always had a thing for both Camaros and Corvettes. I fell in love with the Vette the first time I saw a 63 Split Window. Same with the Camaro when I saw my first 67 Camaro SS. But in both there were years when I could care less about either one, they lost a lot of their raw styling and muscularity that I loved... Then in 2006 I saw the Camaro Concept... I fell in love with the Camaro again... Now the C7 Stingray brings me back to 1963 again, it's a good time to be a Camaro or Corvette lover. We have more choices now than ever.

We do, and i know its a lot at $75, but if i was going to order a C7 it has to be a Z06 and we know a 3LT is over $65K with the Z51, so dont you think a Z06 will be at $80K+

Well I expect the C7 Z06 to have the performance to beat the C6 ZR1, that being said I wouldn't doubt it will be in the $95K to $100K range.

While that is true, Im sure a lot of people who can afford 75K on a car that is gonna be a toy could swing the extra for a Vette

Corvette hands down.

It qualifies for multiple classes.
there's a reason they make Hoosier R6 road race tires. Put them on both the and see who is faster. Everyone wants to quote this lap time and that lap time. What happens when a C6 ZO6 shows up with a set of hoosiers on? And those hoosiers don't cost $3k to replace like the trofeos or whatever.
Corvette will do the same thing lap after lap. That's what they are made to do.
I see the new Z much like the C4 ZR1. Double the price, great performance but in 10 years when we are into the 7th gen Camaro the 5th gen Z will be showing up for half price on dealer lots.

For 75k I'd buy an SS and a track car.

Those are MY reasons why I wouldn't buy a new Z over a vette.

Reasons I would buy a new Z over a vette are: (IF I were very wealthy, which I'm not)So I could say I have one.

I've been a Chevy guy all my life and I've had a number of Camaros and 5 Vettes. I love my current ride, but what I think would cause me to lean toward a Z28 is that you'd be hard pressed to meet another on the road while driving one! There will always be tons of Corvettes at any road course, but a Z28 will be scarce.

I agree with you since production will be limited, but the average joe on the street will not tell the difference between an SS and a Z28 other than the badging.
Unless you come across a hardcore fanatic that can appreciate how the Z28 is made.

Its never been a serious consideration for me to get a corvette. For a lot of years I wasn't able to afford a vette, so I never thought about getting one. Add to this, for a long period before my first camaro I didn't have a garage, so that was another deterrent to me in considering buying a vette.

It has only been during the last decade that I have had the ability to consider owning a corvette; However, for one reason or another I've found other model prospects more desirable. Its not due to the corvette in general (they are excellent), but more of a fact that the camaro and some other models have improved greatly in terms of powertrain (the LS motors are a performance and engineering triumph for GM), performance and handling, and overall build quality.

Then again, its certainly possible that I may own a corvette one day....just not anytime soon!

Well now I would say that this Z/28 is probably going to be the last naturally aspirated, performance trim level GM will build. That is a big reason to get one. The base cars will be N/A but with the Z06 going forced induction, it doesn't bode well for the next Z/28 staying N/A.

I think the question is the same as to why everyone on this board drives Camaros versus Mustangs.

Why buy a Camaro over a cheaper mustang with the same performance? Cause we like the Camaro better.

_____

And in all honesty...Yes I would buy the Corvette over a Z/28.

I'd buy a C6 before I bought a z28 and a z28 over a C7... I hate the C7 though .

Fixed . . . . . and for the vast majority of the membership here you absolutely nailed the only reason that really matters.

Because I want A/C, Stereo, and it would cost the same to get a used ZR1 and throw on some race tires for the same price

I think I have found my next car.

The new Z06 is powered by a brand new supercharged 6.2L LT4 engine, estimated to deliver better than 625 HP and more than 635 ft.-lbs. of torque. And the Z06 will be the only car in the U.S. that offers more than 600 HP, and a choice of two transmissions. The first is a 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching. The second is an all-new, high-performance 8-speed automatic, designed and built by General Motors.Read more:*http://gmauthority.com/blog/2014/01/...#ixzz2qh8kdDlC

Welcome to Jan 17th Rip Van Winkle! Have a good nap? If you really gave a crap about the Z06 you would have been on the Monday live release like the rest of us.

All about the build numbers, z/28 will always be a niche limited vehicle. Person buying it knows that. Vettes are bad muthers, but there a dime a dozen. The cool factor in the Z/28 will have people worldwide selling it out.

...so, I ask...this is it? The Z/28 will for ever more be the top of the line uber priced Camaro beyond the reach of the regular guy? The ZL1 was some what attainable at 54,9K plus. How can Chevy go backwards from this IPO? Is there any hope heading to the next Gen Camaro that this stratospheric MSRP will not be at the same level?

I get the feeling this will be the last Z/28. I don't see how Chevy can bring it back with a blown Z06.

....I am with you hobbs to a degree, I think this is a one off, send off 5th Gen ride. This was done intentionally, through GM front office decisions to make it a special collectible ride. The next gen will be different, and the models will be scaled down as well. I feel the Z/28 will not be retired though. The SS should.

Maybe the Z28 will return in place of the 1LE or something.

...I agree, the 1LE could have been the Z/28.... The SS placard has been over used and needs to go to the wayside. Engineering a Z/28 into a ultra expensive world class car smacks in the face of the old school consumers face.

Number One reason to get a Z/28 over a Vette? I can fit inside the Camaro, but -- at 6'7" -- have never been able to drive a Vette.
