BIG RETRO GAUGES - LIKE or HATE?

I was wondering what people thought of those big retro gauges. I really like the rest of the car, but hate those gauges. They look gimmicky and out of place in 2009. I would prefer a futuristic look for the instrument panel such as what they are going to put into the new Chevrolet Volt, one large LCD display (see below). They should at least have the Volt style LCD display as an option in addition to the retro gauges and let people choose.

Not till either later in the generations life or next generation.

There where a few Camaro's with digital dash. I think early 3rd gen's so that too is a bit of heritage. But it just would not of made sense right now and would of cost more probably.

Well, they are big, round, and red in the middle. They have that going for them.

Ewww... No way! I Wouldn't trade our retro Camaro guages for all the tea in China for that!

The analog guages help make the car what it is and so attractive! Colorful Eye candy!
I wouldn't have changed a thing unless there was a way to include a analog Tic-Tock Tach into it! (For those who don't know, Thats a clock inside the tachometer)

Digital Panel readouts are kind of ...Well...HoHum boring and played out. Had them in a Camaro Berlinetta back in the 80's. They were aweful and to simple looking.
I'd take Analog Guages over them any day!
Plus that white center console look's just like my Maytag washing machine display panel that's in the console of that Chevy Voltron thing!

Like or hate?

You forgot "LOVE!!!"

I love'em. I DO like the LCD screen as well....but not for this car. Heck, I'd take that LCD in the SUV over the retro any day. It, for me, is the type of vehicle that the screen is going to go into that makes the difference.

Has to be heritage for the Camaro.

On the Volt I sort of like the speedo cluster but the center stack/NAV looks cheap & like someone stuck an appliance in the dash.

I like gauges. (12gauge is my favorite)

The pic you posted looks too gameboy for me. Besides, a gauge is faster to read. The human brain processes location of the needle faster than it does numbers. Location identification is a natural process. Reading numbers is a learned process, therefore slower.

Retro was a must for this design.
They took the outside and brought it in.
Superb work by the interior design team!

You may very well be standing alone.

Looks like a space ship cockpit! I think it don't look bad. Kinda cool. Glad theydidnt do that to the camaro. I love the way my camaro looks especially with the IOM outline.

I will admit that if they kept the same style that is already there but just changed from analog to digital it wouldn't look all that bad! I might like it, but the style would have to stay the same!! Big retro gauges, just in digital!
