New Best! 11.74@120.. Stock ZL1 A6

A little while back I started a thread questioning how the guys on the top of the stock list got their extremely quick times with the stock Goodyears. With traction being marginal at best at temperatures below 60 with these tires, I was starting to question how valid these times were. I was able to answer those questions myself along with moving myself up the fast list.

The day started in my typical frustrating fashion...no traction. Hey, the tires wouldn't hook when the temp. was in the 50s, why would it hook below 40? After making pass after pass, letting it sit for 40 minutes in between to cool down, I threw in the towel and decided to start hot lapping. Between that and better track prep, I was able to run a new best of 11.88 @ 121.19.

I was happy with the new best but decided to try for something quicker. I had brought the Roto Fab intake along so I decided to give it a try. I made 2 passes seeing no improvement over my stock times, then, after a starting line mishap, they prepped it again. It really was glued. My next pass with the Roto Fab got me a 11.82 @ 119.8 with a 1.89 60'. I followed that with the car's best run ever of 11.59 @ 121.4 on a 1.74 60'!!!

I believed I could run these times with the stock airbox in place so off came the Roto Fab and back on went the stock air box. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the same traction any longer, but I did run another new best stock of 11.74 @120.14 on a spinning 1.79 60', and a 11.76 @ 121.8 with a 1.87 60'

Though I'm extremely happy with how the car ran today, I believe I could've taken over the number 1 spot had I kept the stock airbox in place. I had the same mph in both configurations but found the perfect traction on that 1 pass

It sure does, I had pretty much given up on beating the 11.99 I got the first time running the car at the track.

Sure thing, but I seriously doubt it can be done on the stock Goodyears. I've tried different launch techniques, different tire pressures, different tracks, and different weather conditions. Though that 1.74 60' wasn't pulled with full throttle at launch, it was as close to perfect as I can imagine on those tires on a cold track. Ironically, my first time to the track got that same 60' launching from idle without having to pedal the throttle at all.

Big Dave, if this is the guy I think it is, it will be well worth your while to talk with him. I think this is the guy I talked with some time ago and his tip helped me. He is not trying to sell you anything. Nothing lost but a phone call and a few minutes.

Good Job and some nice passes!! One of my friends ran 11.77 @ 119 in stock trim in a A-6 ZL1. About the same as you they got the track prep right and he made a good pass.

Thanks guys. I've been resisting the temptation to mod this car since I have another car to race. I really wanted to see what it would run stock. I'm kinda upset at myself that I put the intake on. I'm absolutely sure I would've run the same time without it.

Almost looks like the Roto Fab CAI does nothing for the ZL1. Trap speeds stock were the same as Roto Fab trap speeds.

vader is on to something...or it made more boost then knocked up top and pulled a bit of timing due to no tune.
