Z06 vs GT-R vs 911 Turbo -Road and Track

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6594
The 911 was third. The Vette placed second. GT-R won. All three posted the same 0-60 times, the vette reached 120 mph a full 2 seconds faster than the GT-R. However, the Nissan did better in the slalom and slightly better on the skidpad.

basically, all three cars were very close, I don't think the porche won a single event though. But if it were a race, the winner would be the best driver.

*edit -When looking at one of the spec sheets there is a drawing of the GT-R in profile and it looks alot like the Mustang to my eyes, well other than the very front of the nose

The only reason for the vette losing is because it doesn't need some crappy ass computer to drive the car for you. And the vette is RWD and the GT-R is AWD just a LITTLE diffrenece. But props for the GT-R for beating the 911

Are you kidding me!!!! The GT-R was over 5 seconds a lap faster at the race track than either car!!! WOW!! That's not winning thats a slaughter!!! And faster than an Enzo Ferrari in the slalom, unbelievable. Color me very impressed.

so, the Z06 is on run flats in the cold... is anyone really surprised that the GT-R was faster? kudos to Nissan for building a fast car, but I want to see an apples to apples comparison... because even in the cold weather, 0-60mph was a dead heat, 0-100mph was all Corvette and Porsche and by the time you got to 120mph, the Z06 was pulling away from both competitors like a jet... a full 2 seconds faster to 120mph... to me, that says the Vette was at a big loss down low and that probably carried over to Buttonwillow as well.

the GT-R is fast... on a level playing field, I believe the Z06 would have faired better.

True dat and the vette has no computer system driving FOR YOU (it practically does) and has AWD and the BUT the z06 was faster 0-60 because it didn't have that pos boost lag and had LOTS of TORQUE

but it was a level field, well as close as you can get to it. they were at the same track in the same conditions. and unless someone changed the tires before the test, I think its as fair as we will get

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. There is no boost lag for the GT-R full torque is reached by like 2800rpm. The main advantage is the DCT and a slight influence with the AWD, but you are blatantly wrong and biased with your "POS boost lag" comment.

Lag is no longer as big an issue as it used to be. People need to stop using that as an excuse for anything. It's all about matching the appropriate forced induction to the car. Most companies do a good job about that nowadays.

I give big props to the GT-R. I like seeing the Z06 get up to 120 so well. How much of a benefit do you guys think the Corvette would get from AWD? Isn't there a rumor out there that GM is considering AWD on a future Corvette as an option?

sadly, I believe you are correct... nobody is going to take the time to put some normal tires on the Z06 and run a GT-R against it... and that's a shame, because the Z06 is a very fast car when you get rid of the run flats... EMT tires + cold weather = slip sliding like a mofo... and, like I said before, in a cold weather race (and yes, 57degrees is a cold weather race), the obvious advantage goes to the GT-R... with more technology than the Porsche and more grip than the Z06, it was destined to be a winner... lets hope that they redo this race again on a 75degree day with about 50-60% humidity... I have a feeling the results will be very different than they were this time, even if they dont change the run flats on the Z06.

I think the Camaro should adopt something sort of like the Nissans AWD platform, the thing is, it technically AWD until it needs to be.

PLEASE READ THIS, it is very informative and a very interesting system. (Primarily near the bottom) As for the DCT I still like it, but as for modifying, bleh, doesn't look fun to make it useful considerably above stock HP

Gotta give props to the GTR, there is no question about that.

the Blur is correct about the turbo lag issue. banks was the first to have a turbo with NO turbo lag at all...if you had the money to afford it. So im sure with all the computer controlled do-dads in the GTR lag is minimized if not eliminated.

As far as Race conditions are concerned Im with Silver Turtle. Id like to see those to on a warm day and get rid of those darn run flats, Im positive you'd see different results.

nothing can be taken from the GT-R it is that it is. hell in my opinion its the Jap Vette. American technology/muscle at its finest, V.S. Japanese ingenuity at its best so really no ones a loser as far as what these companies are putting on the streets

Man MCPOAJ & SilverTurtle you guys are a bunch of excuse making whiners. Your "beloved" corvette got smoked, deal with it. All this "the weather was wrong", "the tires were no good", "the computer drives the car", blah blah blah, wannhh, wannhh, wannhh. For the record the vette has the widest tires of the group and did manage to post .99g on the skid pad and 70.6 mph in the slalom so the tires can't be that bad. Do you honestly think different street tires would have made up 5 seconds a lap? And for the weather, all three cars delt with the same conditions so this is a pointless remark. Do you think only the vette would have gained grip in warmer conditions? I don't think so. Now for MCPOAJ comment that the "computer drives the GT-R". Lets not forget the vette has a state-of-the-art yaw-control system that helps drive the car too. Face the facts guys, no amount of weather or tires would have helped the vette overcome over a 5 second a lap difference. Sorry. I don't think the new ZR1 would have beat it.

I'm not going to defend myself to someone that has no idea what they're talking about... I gave props to the GT-R for the win and you chose to single me out... so I'll just take it that you can't read and I'll leave it at that.

Did I read that right?!?! You don't think the ZR-1 could beat, let alone sqash (like the bug it resembles) the GTR??

Well, I beg to differ. I differ Greatly!!!!

As for the rest of your post...Both cars are fast...but we're on a Camaro forum (you know, the closest relative to the Corvette?...not counting the XLR). I hardly think it's whining.

And no I don't think the ZR1 would have beat the GT-R in this comparison. Sorry, I could be wrong but I don't see the ZR1 making up over 5 seconds a lap.

I'm not here to bash vette's or chevy or anything. However when I see people making excuses for a loss and crying over it I have to say something.

hmm. No. You don't. You didn't HAVE to say anything. And though I respect your opinions, this would have been one of those occasions where you kept them to yourself.

And I'd request that this conversation end between you two. Civilly, I'd prefer - but you can just stop, too. I don't care. Keep it going and the thread gets closed till the two of you cool off.

Looking again at the lap times, it was 4.3 seconds (not 5) on a ~2 min lap. That works out to a differance of a little more than 3.5%. That is still significant, however to claim that a ZR-1 could not best it is rather hard to believe. The ZR-1 has better suspension and brakes than the Z06, as well as a power to weight ratio that has been improved by nearly 20% over the Z06. Compared to the GT-R, I think it will be able to handle nearly the same in the twisties and dominate on the exit of the turns because of the gargantuan amount of power that it has while weighing 500 lbs less. The Z06 already has better top end acceleration than the Nissan, the ZR-1 will be in a completely different league. However, the ZR-1 will also cost ~30k more than the Z06 and GT-R. And it wasn't in this comparison so all of this is kinda pointless.

Oh, and for those who want to talk about 'well the Corvette lost because it doesn't have this but the GT-R does' that argument is pretty pointless. You could argue that the Corvette would have won if it had turbos or all carbon fibre frame. Yes, but then its no longer a stock Z06, is it? The car that was compared is the car that you could buy off the dealer's lot. There's a saying that I like to use for people that use the excuse of "Well if only . . . " If only your dirtbike had four wheels then it would be a quad. I prefer the one referencing Aunts and Uncles. I had to stop myself though.

If anyone read the wiki link I posted, do you think the community would be accepting of the way the GT-R has its AWD system set up. Please read the link before posting any comments! It is a few posts up. And instead of "breaking tradition" I think the Corvette should do something uniquely American. Take something that is good, and make it like eight times better...Improve on it and make the GT-R look like crap. Furthermore drivetrain loss on this new platform has been found to be only about 1% give or take more than standard RWD drivetrains loss.

Why would you ever pose a question like that in the general discussion part of an AUTOMOTIVE forum. It has to do with cars? Maybe that could be why we are talking about it? Now back to my question? Anyone please lol.... haha

"I'll take a normally aspirated engine over a turbo any day, at least when it's this good. The Z06's engine has crazy power all the time, at any rpm, in any gear. And the sounds...come on, it's an American V-8, need I say more? It's the kind of power you can truly call 'neck-snapping,'" Monticello said.
Hear Hear! I'm finishing up the article now...

EDIT:
Well it's about what I would have expected. The Z06 is built for the track which is normally kept spotless. The GT-R and Porsche Turbo are built for performance on everyday roads. The porsche has the best/most concfortable interior. The GT-R performed the best overall but has a very stiff suspension which apparantly is stiffer and less forgiving than the z06 while going over potholes/bumps.

Each car won in a seperate category, but the car which came closest to the top in all categories was the GT-R to these people. Who's to say MT or Winding Road won't have a different opinion. I would definitely opt for the Vette or GT-R from a price perspective, especially when both perform better according to these conditions. The porsche is more of a status thing in my eyes.
