Cool New GM CEO

Is for the first time a woman. So maybe a pink Camaro isn't far off.

Yes she has but they're making a big thing about it. Because no woman has ever held the post.

As long as she didn't design the Pontiac Aztec it is worth giving her a chance. She has been there like 33 yrs or something.

GM really lost its way when its CEO's all came out of the Finance Dept. instead of being a real car person with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. If this woman has a degree in Electrical Engineering, she has to know something. And for a dig on my ME buds, most ME's are ME's as they flunked out as EE's....................

One of my great frustrations is that my current work employs me as a "bean counter". My skills allow me to fulfill the requirements, but its painful to me when the bottom line takes precedence. Cost should be an independent variable and not THE driving determinant!

Then there's me, I flunked out of both and went into IT instead of getting a real job.

So most Mechanical engineer's are that because they flunked out of Electrical engineering yeah ok..... Also petroleum engineers are doing that because they flunked out of electrical engineering. Your final statement is BS sorry.

I'd really love to make some off color jokes that would get me kicked off of here, but I won't.

Good for her though. Had a conversation with my mom recently discussing the split of female to male finance majors at the University of Alabama. I commented that my finance class is like 97% male. She said she had hoped the business world had changed by now. I told her that no one is stopping women from signing up for finance classes, that's their choice, and it's just the finance that I have noticed being that way. Other classes may not be 50/50, but they aren't so skewed towards so much of a boys club anymore.

Imagine a day when it won't be a big deal for a woman to take a chief job at a company, it will be just the new chief.

It should not be a big deal for anyone to take a job, woman, African American, Asian.whatever. We're all equal..

Its time to leave ignorance behind... We are all intelligent..

Great for her..

Its about what you know.. not what / who you are.. Hopefully everyone will be judged one day by the content of their character.. and not what you can see..

American muscle, apple pie, land of opportunity
Maybe the 2016 will really be old school now..

I think the female part of it is rather irellevant. But she her long list of qualifications make me very confident that she will do great at the helm of GM especially since she is so product and design focused and will have Reuss at her side for product development. Seems like GM is finally designing cars based on engineering not the beans spent.

If a person is qualified for a job no matter what job it is, it shouldn't matter what Gender, race, or nationality they are. Also, it shouldn't be made to be a big deal either when a certain gender, race or nationality gets a certain position either. I wish her the best and hope that she doesn't mess up what GM has been doing to get things turned around.

Seen her on the CBS news; as stated in other threads she is an engineer, interned at GM at 15 yrs old, her father worked at a GM assembly plant for 39 yrs. She stated that 1st car she fell in love with was 1967 CAMARO convertible when she was 14..and has worked on the Corvette systems with input on the new CAMAROS...& she is now 52 yrs old; so i thinkthis is the best fit for anyone who luvs performance vehicles and she can drive my Camaro anytime!

You are correct, however this is a huge milestone for women in corporate America. That glass ceiling is starting to crack ahd hopefully will soon crumble & fall to the floor so we can sweep it away forever. I am very proud of Chevy for recognizing that the most qualified & best person for the job just so happened to be female.

(I could not find this thread for a while, I see they merged a couple of threads)

Good for her. I'm almost done getting a degree in mechanical engineering. Tell her I said good luck and not to give up. It's a difficult degree to earn.

"No more crappy cars". I'm sure she was talking about the Aztec and most stuff from the 90's but it's good to hear she's dedicated to GM.

The "You go girl" was more meant as a congrats or good for you comment. If you saw any of the news reports on the appointment you would have seen the stats on female CEO's & execs which I don't recall exactly & don't have time to look up now as I have to get to work myself. But the stats are rather pittiful. Some industries are better than others but many are still awful. To some extent in some segments it is attributable to few women taking certain fields of study. But in other areas it is more like in my field. I work for the largest provider of community mental health services in the US. More than 90% of the staff in this field has always been female. Yet more than 90% of the top execs & CEO's are male. How does that happen? So yes there is still inequity out there. Your comments are a bit confusing as on the one hand you seem to get it that both genders are capable of achieving the same success in any field they choose but you seem uninformed about the inequities that still exist in equal pay and in the percentages of females in CEO positions & upper level management across the board.
