Bill's Camaro SS

Hello and good evening all!

First, Let me tell you a little about myself;
  • I am 38 years old
  • I am a career Firefighter
  • I live in Florida by way of New Mexico
  • This the the third Camaro that I have owned (1969 convertible SS 4 speed, and 1995 Z with a 383 one off stroker motor)
  • I do all of the work on my own cars short of paint and body work.
This is the earliest picture I could find of my Camaro.
I ordered this Camaro from Chevy direct. I wanted a base SS (big motor) with only the Stereo upgrade, nothing more.

The very first thing that I did to my Camaro was take a piece of dental floss and removed the C.A.M.A.R.O. lettering from the side fenders. I did this within minutes of buying the car. After that I removed the "Bowtie" from the front of the grill. I would have gone after the rear "bow tie" but the two line up holes in the truck would have driven me crazy.

The next day the car received window tint.

The day after that, I ordered drop springs, front and rear away bars (adjustable), and end links. I installed all of this in my garage on jack stands.

This is how you see the car here...

Stereo stuff

So here I went a head and installed a double din touch screen in the dash. I placed the blue tooth microphone by the rear view mirror. A JL audio Stealth box and amp is placed upside down. All of the wiring is in wire loom and ran without being seen.

Air scoop

I picked up a couple of parts for the Camaro, and in the box was this aluminium air scoop for the SS model. I was in the process of doing the ZL1 front end change and figured this was free...why not install it.

I had an issue.... the scoop does not work with the air opening on the ZL1 front bumper.
I purchased some aluminum stock and figured I would build off of this one.
This had to be functional...so I had to make it larger.
I had to make my bends in the aluminium with a hammer and a piece of wood, so there are not perfect my any stretch of the word.
First the template with cardboard.
Then I had to find additional mounting points.
Then alot of hammering
Then it was rivited together.

ZL1 Front

After searching for different front ends to the car, I still liked the ZL1 front bumper the best.
There have been quite a few threads and information on this change, so I will just ad my pictures.

I used the heritage grill instead of the ZL1.
Some of the pieces are not in the pictures because I have left them off for paint. (Like the two pieces that go in front of the front tires)
