Eliminating the raspy sounds

Hey guys,

I've been searching around the forums for a while now but couldn't seem to find what I've been looking for. I have a 2013 Camaro 1SS (L99) and I recently added a Flowmaster American thunder series axle back exhaust with Borla LT offroad headers (no cats). Now I get this annoying raspy sound past 2500 RPM
I know the rasp sound is because there is a mid pipe instead of cat converters but I wanted to tone it down.

I was looking at a MagnaFlow x-pipe (11386) instead of the stock L99 resonator. Would this calm down the Rasp? If not, what other options would there be? I don't believe that there are high-flow cats that can connect to these headers but if so please tell me.

Main Question: Will http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-11386/overview/ in replace of stock L99 exhaust resonators help quiet down rasp?

Thanks to anyone who helps me

No rattle. Its hard to explain fully. Its not the deep exhaust sound. Its more rasply/ higher pitched. Kinda sounds metally like a tin can at some points.

If its definitely rasp then a standard xpipe won't really help, might even make it worse. Magnaflow offers a resonated xpipe that helps reduce rasp, not sure if thats the one you listed. Look in to it

You may actullay be hearing the drive train. Headers will make the actual engine noises more pronounced.

Resonated X pipe will help a little but the only way to really silence it is to slap on some high flow cats.

Thanks. So the MagnaFlow resonated x-pipe will be quieter/less raspy than the stock resonator on the L99? That's what i'm hoping for.

Correct, It will definitely help a lot, but just about anything anything short of adding cats will not completely eliminate the rasp.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Thanks,
If a resonator isn't enough... What hi-flow cats, if any will be able to fit on my setup?
Borla XR-1 LT headers (17249) With the factory exhaust

Headers had a 2.5in collector w/ midpipe

If you're still running the factory L99 resonator, I highly doubt the magnaflow version is going to make much if any difference, in sound. As far as HFC's, you'll need to get with Borla to see what they recommend. From looking that them, it appears as though you'll need to do a little fab work to get them to work. I'd bet some slip-ons would fit with a little bit of cutting. If the collector is 2.5in, you'll need 2.5in to 2.5in slip on HFCs.

With your setup, if you remove the stock center resonator, you'll go from raspy sound to full-on DRONE. You may want to change out the mufflers for Magnaflow for a deeper sound. The stock exhaust was actually designed properly and we're trying to make them sound like modified race cars. Fun, but an expensive learning process.

The factory mufflers do a very good job at eliminating drone. It's when you move to aftermarket mufflers, the drone appears.

Thanks for the replies. Drone doesn't affect me much due to my lack of highway driving. What is getting me annoyed is the raspy tin can sound from the exhaust. It's not as bad as others say theirs is but it's there. I'm going to try swapping the stock resonator for the magnaflow one. See if it works.

It worked! About an hour ago I removed the stock L99 exhaust resonator and installed the MagnaFlow resonated X Pipe with extra 2.5in pipes and all I can say is WOW... The raspy sounds from no cata is 80% gone. I am so happy with it. Much deeper exhaust note and slightly quieter.

Good to hear! The Resonated X pipes really do make a BIG difference!
