R.I.P. Monte Carlo, Advice Needed
Well, my Monte Carlo finally pissed me off for the last time today. My fuel pump and relay died and I just don't feel like fu*king with a car every day just to drive to work. I am going to fix this issue with the car for my fiance to drive in and around town, but tomorrow I am going shopping.
I am not wanting to spend more than 10k on some daily driver that is FWD that I can stick studded tires on in the winter. I was thinking a used cobalt or cavalier. What do ya think? Any suggestions.

Love my Cobalt. I'd recommend it, and you can get an 05 or 06 model for 10,000. That's what KBB puts my 06 at.

i'd suggest a either an 04-05 cavalier or an 05-06 cobalt. they're good reliable cars that are good in the snow and have decent pick up. and if you want to stick american that can kick the ass out of any import 4 banger they're your car

YES!!!!
I just got a 2007 Pontiac G5 2D Coupe (black) today for one hell of a steal compared to every other dealer in my area. I couldn't even find a cobalt, and the only downside to this one is that it is automatic... Pictures when there is enough light to take them.

![]() here is a pick of a black G5 coupe. unlike the cobalt coupe which this is based off of it has the cobalt sedan's rear fascia that does not have the dual round taillamps of the coupe. and it has its own front fascia. other than that it is identical to the cobalt. my buddy has a G5 coupe and it is a DAMN nice little car.

I hate double posting, but i will admit that this calls for it.
Gah, so this deal fell through and tomorrow I am heading to southern WV to buy a new cobalt. Any suggestions on things to look for. I don't want to go too expensive because I have a camaro to buy, but I don't want something overly cheap. I have already qualified for the current 2.9% and 1000 cash back, plus my supplier discount.

LT's up that to power windows, etc. And you have the option for the 2.4L 170-something hp motor in the sport model. The interior's, quality and material-wise are pretty much the same up through the trims. BUT, I noticed when looking for mine, the interiors of the cars have different color schemes...some have black pieces where others have beige, some are all black - other's aren't...look out for that. Assuming you're going new, the '08s ALL have curtain airbags standard. ABS: not so much. I don't know if that's important to you.Other than that...there's really not much TO look for. A Cobalt's a Cobalt. All I can say is an early, "Congrats" on the purchase, and prepare to be moderately impressed. |

I am fixing it... and my fiance is going to drive it. The girl has a new engine and transmission, I am not going to let a fuel pump / FP relay kill it, but I need something more reliable to get back and forth from work on.
With any luck once I get time to look at it, it will just be a clogged fuel filter and a quick fix.

Well....from everything I hear about Cobalts on this forum, they can't be all that bad. In fact, they sound pretty good from all these folks. Just try to get something that is going to get you good resale value for that new Camaro!

Proud owner of a Black 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt 2LT. It came with the better wheels, sunroof, 4 wheel anti-lock, a spoiler, and power everything. Damn nice, and the gas mileage is incredible. 2.9% plus 1000 dollars cash back AND my supplier discount.
