Guys, something to consider here. Those shafts are bought in bulk from a vendor. They are built in a "batch" and shipped to the engine facility. Since they are not serialized, there may be no way to identify which batch of shafts is failing let alone which shaft went into what tranny. That will make it very difficult to track this problem. Chevy may not know which trannies are effected!

If that's the case, they need to say that and at least give a range where cars could be affected. They promised 2.5 months ago that they would notify people. They have not done that.

I just got mine back. The bill showed over $4300. I wonder how much it would've costed them if they just replaced the shaft proactively (assuming that's possible)?

My SS1 went into the shop today for a bad 2nd gear syncro. My VIN is 127151. Does anyone think I would have the problem. I want to ask the dealer to change out the shaft just for precaution.

Possible but unlikely. Yours was part of or after the hold and as far as we know, all of those are fine.

I'm not sure what's involved in replacing the syncro but I doubt you'd be able to convince them to replace something that isn't broken without GM having an order to do so. They wouldn't be able to bill it back to GM and I don't think it's quite as easy as just swapping in the new shaft.
