Spurred by high gas prices, Dodge unexpectedly sped the introduction of a V-6 version of the 2009 Challenger, a model that could account for 40% or more of Challenger sales. The Challenger SE, powered by a 3.5-liter V-6, joined the much-anticipated 2009 Challenger R/T — which uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 — on stage at the New York auto show. Come fall 2008, those versions will join the current Challenger SRT8, which has a 6.1-liter version of the Hemi V-8 and is the sole trim level available as a 2008.

While Dodge expects the R/T trim level to be the volume seller, Bryan Zvibelman, Chrysler Group's manager of car, minivan and truck product communications, says the model's appeal is broad enough to attract buyers who are less interested in speed. "The look of the car is a big part of its appeal, and people will be happy to have that for just over $20,000," he said. That rough price refers to the base SE trim level; the SRT8 stickers for $37,320.

The 08 V6 Mustange starts just under $20k. If this is the kind of premium Scott is talking about I am a happy camper.

I think this leaves lots of room for a Challenger R/T to be well under $30k, probably pretty close to the GT. And if those two are that close the SS has to follow.

But when Chevy renigged when they first said they wanted the camaro to be able to compete with mustang pricing (which was one reason to bring camaro back in the first place $$$$) now they are saying they (gm) are not going to be trying to slam beat the prices on mustangs..

The prices will be competitive with the Mustang. YES. It will be a little more expensive. NO. They were not going to beat them. If anybody thought that it was possible to price a Camaro beneath a Mustang, with an "upscale" interior, and an extremely advanced IRS system....they're nuts.

Second, the Challenger shouldn't even be considered when you talk pricing. This year they're making 5-10 thousand(error?) of a car that's been out of commission for thirty years. This car was designed to appeal to all the baby-boomers that now have money to pay such outrageous prices. It get's terrible gas mileage, has a mediore interior, and considering all that, then accounting for it's performance (imo) it's priced WAY to high to begin with.

Camaro will be a mass-produced car, aimed at younger buyers who DON'T have money to throw around. So. it will be priced against the Mustang, trim for trim. Have WAY better performance, have WAY better interior, and WAY better gas mileage.

Don't let the sky fall. nobody "renigged" anything. A bunch of people took "Premium" to mean through-the-roof pricing. They were, are, and will be wrong.

Have Faith. They're going to do this the right way.

That really hurts Dragoneye. I am certainly not anywhere near what you would call a younger buyer....... What the heck, I still want one. I did go look at the interior of some of the Chevy's. You are right, can't wait now to see the camaro. As far as price goes, I want mine loaded!!

OK this is all the way back in 2006 on camaross.com and I was not into blogging at the time so I typed in Camaro MSRP and got this at the top of the search and saved it as cannon. Remember this is from two years ago. So, lets play around with this shall we?

Wellll.... couple things they have wrong:

XMRadio is damn near impossible not to get, You'll be lucky to get a delete option for no $ back
Exactly as the 08 Malibu lists (Can't uncheck it as an option for any trim level)
Also from the Malibu "Sunroof, , power, tilt-sliding (CF5) $800.00 "

the LS9 is a 6.2L 620hp for the Vette ZR1 - Camaro isn't gonna get it
Maybe get the LSA whisch is also 6.2L S/C but 550hp (we can hope)

I think we've well established that while the LS3 will have VVT it probably wont do DoD.


Thread start date 05-03-2006, 01:32 PM So I think some allowances can be made.

But 5 pages in they are still arguing about how the LS9 can't be the LS7 replacement because though the LS9 is a 6L S/C the LS7 is a 7L (Someone actually bolded that statement)
Never mind the fact that its a 6.2L and it isn't actually replacing the LS7 the LS9 will be the enging in the ZR1 not the standard Vettes.

damn I hope that z28 pricing is not right because I'm not paying 38k for my camaro. 30-32k optioned out just right sounds just right. that should leave me with 5k left over for parts and upgrades. why pay 10k more for a supercharger when you can get the same power out of just a few grand of upgrades.

Well, that depends on what you consider 'just right'.

I've built a Mustang over on Ford's website and it usually comes to around $34,000 for what I'd want.

Considering the Camaro will be a little more than the Mustang I'm assuming it will be around $35,000 for a very well optioned base V8.
