Camaro Spare - Normal Diameter, but not as wide

I currently have a full size spare (front 20") in my spare tire space and have pics in another thread. I keep the air pressure at ~10lbs (have a pump with me at all times) and this allows me to push the tire down enough where about 3-4" sticks out of the spare tire bay.

I have a 2ss and am about to put on some new Hawk ceramic brake pads which will get rid of the roller skates. That gives me some new options on a spare that I didn't have before.

I would like to find a wheel and tire that will be roughly the same diameter as the stock setup (~28.6") but not be as wide. The stock width is about 9.6". That way I can keep the right height, but it won't stick out from the spare bay as much.

Anyone tried this on their RS or non-rollerskate SS?

I've been doing research again on this and I still haven't found a viable solution. It's either a full size spare (like I currently have) or a v6 size compact spare that can only be used on the front of a v8 with the need of a spacer and would require 2 tire changes if the flat was in the back.

The closest I can find is a skinny tire on a weld wheel or something similar. I believe there is one the right height, but I have yet to read about anyone using one in the rear and I'm not sure if these particular 28" diameter tires are street legal.

Since I no longer have the roller skates (I installed my ceramics yesterday), I'm thinking of finding a 18x7" rim with the right offset and use a slimmer tire on it. For example, a 195/70/18 (if they exist) would be 28.7" tall and 7.68" wide. That's .1" difference from stock and the width is ~2" less. I'm basically using a tire size converter (i.e.http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/) and trying 17" and 18" combinations that equal close to the stock 28.6" diameter and are much slimmer than the stock width of the front tire 9.6".

I'll keep looking and report any findings here, but it doesn't look good.

I have the Camaro SS Spare Tire Kit, includes Jack, Lug Wrench, Adaptor to fit over the brake and of course new tire mounted to the wheel. Purchased from Dumars on ebay who sold many of them and stopped making them. Tested for fit, but never used. I just traded in my Camaro SS for a C7 Corvette. I paid $495 for the kit, will sell for best reasonable offer. I am in NY area.

Appreciate the offer, but I ended up buying the GM spare, jack, styrofoam, etc from a forum member locally for $100. Bought the 2.5" spacer adapter from Adaptit USA (http://adaptitusa.com/5x120to5x475ca...eladapter.aspx) to clear my roller skate Brembos for another $75 shipped, so I got a killer deal.

For anyone looking to do this, you can't fit the spacer in the trunk spare wheel well if you want everything to fit correctly. I ended up putting mine in a tight fitting cardboard box and then stuffing that in the same area the BA amp goes. You just pull the side carpet/panel back some and stuff it back there. Lots of unused space back there, so I put some other useful, rarely used things (i.e. ice scraper, spare fuses) in there to keep my trunk from being cluttered.

So now I have a spare that doesn't take up extra trunk space for daily travel and my full size front I will carry when on longer trips. Seems the best of both worlds as far as Camaro spare options go. Here's my pics of the full size spare for those curious (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=159)

i ran into the same issues with trying to get a skinny that was tall enough and ended up doing the same thing. compact spare and spacer for every day, will require 2 changes if it is a rear flat though. and i carry a full size in the trunk for road trips.
the long version of the spare tire saga is in my thread, starts at post #5

Yeah but:

No, 135/80-18 is 26.5" and 275/40-20 is 28.7"
Can't run that temp spare in the back bad for the differential.

I wonder if some of the 18" V6 wheels fit with a spacer, some of them run 245's and maybe even one of them runs a 235?

The cts spare still requires work to clear the front brembo skates and has the same diameter issues as the stock spare. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181059
