this covered under any warranties?
so i went to get a simple alignment for my SS yesterday. i should have known it wouldnt be that easy. a mech from the service bay (i went to a mom&pop mechanic) asked me to come inside and have a look at something, so as my heart sank, i got up and followed him.
he pointed out that my front driver side lower control arm has a nice bend in it, my subframe has some minor damage, and my power steering has a leak. because of these conditions, they did not want to align the car, and i can't blame them. i've done my research on the control arm, and i can get another OEM one from rockauto for 30 bucks, install myself and bring it back for an alignment. power steering, i don't want to know the cost on that. the question i state is would any of that be covered under a bumper-to-bumper warranty or a powertrain warranty? i would still need to see if i even have the bumper to bumper since the lovely dealership i got it from supposedly hasnt "cleared" it into the system (nor have they sent me my second key that they said they would, thank you Chevrolet of Huntington). just looking to see what's covered and whats not. thanks all

lca's are only under bumper to bumper. you can try to do the power steering through powertrain but i was told it only involved engine internals and trans internals.

it wouldnt fit under bumper-to-bumper? kinda ironic if it doesnt but then again, should i really expect anything else from warranties?

If your bumper to bumper is still active then Almost everything is covered. If its expired and all you have is power train warranty... Then all you have is engine and trans related warranty.

I am guessing that you bought it used from you saying that you are waiting on them to clear the car and a second key. You also have the car listed as a 2010 in your avatar. With that info and the ZL1 front bumper on it, I am guessing that you don't have any factory waranty since the car has been modded. Also the bumber to bumber is only 3 years 36k miles from original purchase. Did the dealer give any kind of waranty with it or sold as is? The only other thing that might help is you state laws. The suspension damage could be considered a safety problem and be a required fix, and depending on the size of the leak, it might be as well if it could cause a unexpeted loss of power steering. I am not in the law field and only throwing out guesses here.

Being as there are a few thousand different warranties available, bring it in. They won't charge you to tell you if it's a warrantable item or not.

True. I'm going to call MY dealer tomorrow to see. If my warranty actually cleared on their end, then I'll bring it in

My whole post was a guess as to his situation, including any warranty or not since the op hadn't posted that he bought a warranty at the time. Op, the other problem about trying to get the suspension covered by warranty is that warranties only cover defects, they don't cover damage. The dealer could claim you hit something to damage it since you picked it up. You could also try to argue (politely) that if you had there should be damage or marring on the wheel/tire. Since there isn't any (assuming you didn't hit anything including potholes) that is was like that when you picked it up and it should have been caught and repaired during the process to certify it. The leak should be covered under your warranty and also something they should have fixed during the certification process. Hopefully you have a dealer with good customer service and they take care of everything without any hassle for you. Good luck. |

why would it be under warranty when you obviously hit something?

because it may not have been me that hit something? just like any other human being i've hit a pothole or a few, you can swerve around the road like a drunkass but sometimes in that split second you have to decide whether your car is going to have to either eat it or take another car/tree down with you trying to avoid a pothole, but im pretty sure i would remember a pothole doing damage like a bent subframe and control arm, and i don't, so the argument here is that the dealer may have "overlooked" this during certification, such as danvillekidd mentioned

My power steering pump gave out after some aggressive driving (LOL don't tell my dealership) and I took it to my local dealership and got it fixed under warranty! No questions asked. Car had a hypertech tune but I put it back to stock and then took it and had around 30k miles on it at the time
