First Door Ding :(

I've been parking 1/4 mile from anyone at the few stores my wife and I went to this weekend. Washed the car on Saturday and noticed a nice paint chip on the passenger door, near the bottom. Can hardly see it with the naked eye unless you get really close to it. Thankfully zero body damage, just paint.

It's about half of the size of a dime but goes pretty deep. I can see white below it.

Will one of these after market scratch repair kits be able to fix it? Should I get paint from my dealer? What are the best options? I need to get this fixed, it glares at me like a nasty sore every time I come out to the car. No one notices it but me, but it MUST be fixed.

Thanks guys!

I can get pics, but I'm sure they'll make it look worse than it is.

Just get touch up paint from the dealer. Apply with a really sharp toothpick!

I'm pretty sure it's deeper than the clear coat, there the spot where paint should be is white. The orange is missing. Since the section is so deep, will applying with a toothpick actually work? It sounds like it wouldnt be flush..

Using a toothpick gives you more control over where the paint goes. It will take some time, but you fill-in the section little by little to bring it up to being flush. You can do it all in a day, but you may want to go slower and take 2-3 days and get a better result. If you used the brush that comes with the touch-up paint, you end up adding paint to the surrounding areas as well which defeats the purpose.

Do I order this paint through my dealer? How much cost are we looking at?

If you're going to use touch-up, try applying it with a small matchstick, the cardboard end - it works well.

touch up paint is about $12. Not a big deal. Make sure you get the paint codes off of your door or take your VIN # with you. Get the exact color. One time at the dealer the parts guy sold me the wrong silver for my 2002 Monte SS, and you could tell it was a different color. It comes with a brush and pen style end just take your time, be careful and fill it in a little at a time. let each layer dry before applying the next. If you take it to a body shop they'll do the same thing.

Yup. First thing I ordered the day I got the car.

Pretty neat now. It actually has a PEN Tip on it. Part Number 08800-PCT (IOM) Part Number 88860799 <--Not sure which is which.
I think the pen tip is designed for a deep scratch. The directions make reference to apply some clear coat after so I am going to see if that is also a ordered item. I tested it on my trunk lid and the color was perfect.

I just picked up some touch up paint for a friends camry, The paint was $10.00 The touch up bottle has a little brush and it also has a sharp ball point pen in the top of the lid, it works good for smaller nicks, etc. works just like a inkpen.
