Factory Supercharged Challenger

As a former SRT Challenger owner they still catch my eye occasionally. I also live in Michigan and frequently travel the I75 corridor where Chrysler and GM move cars north and south every day especially during winter to their northern test tracks.

Today I caught a highly camouflaged Challenger covered at a MCdonalds so I hung out parked next to it until the guy came back out. I didn't bother with pics as it had so many foam blocks under the fabric to hide it's lines that it barely even looked like a Challenger. What I did clearly notice when he started it was the very clear whine of a supercharger as is rumored. The guy literally begged me and I agreed not to take pics or audio....

Must also be a complete interior redesign as the inside was completely covered as well in fabric covering everything....

he left quickly and on the highway his travel mates all driving Durango stayed both in front, back, and two on the sides of him for the 22 miles I followed close by...

I still love the look of these cars but I switched for a reason and I'm sure yet again that Chrysler will stop short of making it what they really should and even then it will be substantially more expensive for less technology. They also continue to try to do things to lock out the aftermarket.....

I also like the looks of challengers. But yes there biggest obstacle is the huge price mark ups for everything they sell. Some how they need to look back into their manufacturing process and cut down on waste- in return they can lower price to customer.

I don't get it - if it is that secret, why not just haul it wherever it needs to go?

Be less expensive than having 4 durangoes with drivers I'd think and a lot more secure.

Pretty hard to put miles on it and durability test it when it's on a trailer.

It is rumored to make 640HP with a TVS 2300 6.2L Hemi, thats whats all over the challenger/charger forums aka HellCat engine.

My first car was a big block Challenger and I still have a soft spot for them. I did test drive an SRT8 Challenger with a 6 spd in bright yellow. Very nice car but pound for pound the Camaro is just better, IMHO....

...oh yes....the Dodges <Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth> were so bad back when....they were scarce to even see any of the Hi-Po rides around these parts where I come from. Not alot around Jersey, but they are storied, with a legacy. They were a force in the high performance evolution that got us to where we are today. They march to their own drum, and I respect that.

Saw the car again today and the guy was doing some data logging at McDonalds again...The hood was up and the supercharger was visible. IT looked almost identical in size, shape, and visually to the factory ZL1 blower. It was NOT the traditional TVS or aftermarket looking blower...

While the Hellcat may be pretty good, I question Dodge's ability. Youre going to keep the weight at over 4k+ lbs and just install more HP to compensate for it. I understand it'll do its job, but a camaro with much less weight and increased HP should eat this thing's lunch.

At this point the only thing the Challenger is competitive with, performance-wise, is SUVs.

I hear a refresh is on the way for Challenger as well.

He had the hood up and you didn't snap a pic or two, you would have been the SRT hero . Actually I can't wait for this car, having owned a 12 SRT8, that ran 12:40s bone stock, and destroyed stock brand x in roll races, I can't wait to see what this completely reworked supercharged beast will run. My guess is mid to low 11s for the automatic. My only problem with the car is it will more than likely be out of my price range :(

You might want to check out the curb weight of the Camaro. Its hardly a light vehicle itself. The biggest knock on the challenger they way i see it is dodge's history of building sub quality vehicles,a dated interior and overpricing on the challenger. If they put the current challenger on a weight diet,lower the price and update that interior it will imo put a serious dent in the sales of the mustang and camaro. Dodge is on the right path building a good product i know i own 2 of them but its going to take them a long time to gain the consumers trust back.

I hope they are able and willing to a least match the 662. I almost feel the Dodge crowd deserves that much.

A buddy of mine showed up with a "yellow jacket" Challenger. I guess this car is no longer produced but it clearly had 392 badging on the sides.

Anyhow. He took me for a ride in the car but it literally felt like the car has no balls. Is this a lower horsepower model? If the performance is this bad in the 392, how bad are the R/T models?

RT models aren't bad they just aren't as competitive with the base 5.0 stang or a 1ss Camaro they aren't as quick or fast but they still move pretty good stll in the 5 second range to 60 and 13ish 1/4 time. Dodge discounts the RT models a lot from time to time My mom got hers that stickered for 39k down to 32k.
