Disappointing...

2010 ss vs 2006 mustang gt vert

ss auto, completely stock and auto. Vert. 5 speed, 410 gears, cold air, and mufflers.... mustang won by 2.5 car lengths.

The camaro guy was pissed.

Just thought the camaro was faster than that.

The automatics are running a whole lot slower than they should be on average.. There are quite a few threads about this problem with the SS automatics, just look around this site, they are easy to find..

Some SS autos are very slow it's a possible problem. Mustang lighter and a much better gear for dragging. Better gear in the camaro and it would be fair, and make sure it isn't one of the slow camaros. These 5th gens need gear options, both manual and auto.

how are the 6 speeds? I was seriously considering trading in my stang for a cyber gray 6 speed. Dealer won't let me test drive, only purchase.

But if my old stang can keep up with the 6 speed.. Hmm I just don't know.

6 speed are fine, the auto's start with 26 hp less but they aren't running the advertised 0 to 60 times. Not every auto just some of them. So far every manual has dynoed properly and/or been as fast as advertised. With 4.10's you still prob be close but stock gt stock manual ss is prob not a contest.

My manual 6speed SS is faster than any Mustang GT on the road today incuding 2010'a that is stock.. Now a modded Mustang GT with a supercharger as there are many will put up a good race against a stock Corvette and handily defeat a Camaro simply because the Stang is much lighter.. I would not hesitate to recommend a Camaro SS manual if speed is what you are looking for and power.. You have to remember that the car needs to be broken in up to 1,500 miles before you start letting it loose... Many owners have felt that wakes the car up after the first oil and filter change..

Another thing Ive noticed from other posts and from personal experiance on my auto SS is that after mileage on the car is it really opens up to a whole different level! Maybe this could be the case and possibly could be the driver? Im not trying to dish who was driving but just throwing out a possibility? I know since mine hit 1000miles she a beast and after 2000 shes a super freak! Hopeing when I hit 2500 in next day or so she going to be a brick house! Sorry just love my IOM 2SS Auto Camaro!

6 speed manuals have had their own issues.

And yes, some of the L99's are having issues. Most of it has to do with the very rich tuning (off the chart rich). More than a few guys have dynoed in the 305 rwhp range, which is way too low for a 400hp car. But many of the L99's are running good. The L99 that's featured in the current GM High Tech mag ran 13.3 @ 105 mph in real hot and humid S Florida conditions.

Also, both the L99's and LS3's aren't running the advertised times (on average). The advertised time for the LS3 is 13.0 @ 111 mph. Most the guys at the track aren't running that fast, but thats because it's summer. This winter the times will be a lot closer to advertised for both cars (on average).
The L99's (most of them that are running right) shouldn't have trouble running 13.0s or even faster this winter in good conditions. And the LS3's should be down in the mid 12s (with excellent driving).

Here's the fastest 1/4 mile list for this forum (stock). As you can see we only have two LS3's that have run 13.0 or better. But as mentioned, as the tempertures cool down this fall, these times will get much faster
(L99's and LS3's)

1. speedy6963 - 12.87 @ 109.08 (LS3,M6)
2. NineBall - 13.07 @ 109.07 mph (LS3, M6)
3. Matt (tunetime) - 13.25 @ 106. 4 mph (L99, A6)
4. Foglin - 13.28 @ 106.8 mph (LS3, M6)
5.Amwellls1 - 13.31 @ 107.0 mph (LS3, M6)
6. BLT4SPD - 13.58 @ 96.34 mph (L99,A6)
7. PatrickfromMD - 13.59 @ 104.55 (L99,A6)
8. I Am Legend - 13.82 @ 106.91 mph (LS3,M6)
9. Toehead93 - 13.86 @ 102.66 mph (L99,A6)
10. Pharmd - 13.90 @ 102.3 mph ( L99, A6)
Mlee - 13.99 @ 103.1 mph (L99, A6)

Just because the CAR is fast doesn't meant the DRIVER is.

Well either it's the driver or the car just hasn't been broken into. Most people do not understand you have to start in 1st gear when ur in tap shift mode. But I really honestly feel its due to the fact that the car just needs to be broken into a few thousand miles before you take to to drag.

BTW... not sure about the SS but in the V6 the tapshift and Sport mode net about the same results:
