Paint Issues
I am having an issue with my 2SS RS Red Jewel Tint paint. It seems that water spots and bird droippings are being "burned" into my clear coat / paint. Even when I remove it / dry it right away. Dealer says paint is still fresh and will take more time to cure. I picked it up on 7/13 and the serial # is in 18K. Any ideas?

did you wax it ?
factory paint and clearcoat only does so much. you need to go buy some good wax apply it. I paid for the dealer paint protection which cost me $300, its really nothing other then a real good wax job, but its warrantied for 5 years against this sort of thing.

Meguiar's Yellow wax is great # 26
as far as bird turd get it off asap with running water and a soft sponge, be careful if there is dirt in the droppings try and use the hose to get it off the dirt will scratch your paint. Florida heat as well as AZ heat will freakin do crazy stuff to your paint. I had to buff my paint to get some water spots out. |

if your VIN is in the 18K, that paint is several weeks dried and not to mention that it should be 99% cured when it left the 300 - 400º oven. I never heard of a new car having this problem at all. Dealers run their new cars through several car washes until they are sold to keep em looking clean, and if curing is a problem, dealers would not be doing that. Are you using hard water? Hard water, if let to dry/sun bake on the paint, it is huge pain to get off. Same for bird crap. But no way your paint is getting burned in marks when you wipe water off it right away. Not even cars that just got painted and baked in a regular paint shop's 110º oven will get that from water. There is more to this story, please share. |

You are Florida so you better be careful as many of the birds in your area have particularly acidic poop due to their diet. Here's a few photos of what can happen if you do not get it off quickly.
![]() ![]() As you can see, the "toxic" poop will actually leave craters in the clear coat and in some cases (e.g., seagull poop) the poop will eat down to the color. |

Got my car , have waxed it several times. Bird poop happened. Sprayed it off of the car within an hour. Left a permanent mark on the hood. I have tried mcGuires, all the products. Ordered Zaino and am going to try it, but I am being VERY carful not to buff out too much and do more damage than good. My IBM really shows EVERY defect, dirt, dropping, anything.
Seven defects from the factory in the paint, just leaving them, they are really little, like the size of a pinhead defect, two on hood, two on the back, two on one side, one on the other, so hard to get it to show in a picture. |

I spoke with the dealer today and he confirmed there is an issue with certain paint colors and the time for curing. The florida sun is extremely hot and the paint needs more time to cure. They showed me that the paint gets over 145 degrees (via a thermal gun) and the paint becomes soft. They will fix it under warranty if any issues occur. They recommended I let it sit for 30-45 days and they will re-evaluate. If it is still an issue they will apply the paint protectant at no cost.

I haven't tried yet, but a clay bar might help get rid of the bird poop stains.

This is complete nonsense. There is no issue with paint curing. I waxed my RJT 2 days after I had it. PM 80Zedder on this site, he works in the paint shop in Oshawa. He can tell ya the facts.

My wife didn't wash a huge bird s**t of the side of her car.It was there about 5 days.I worked for about an hour buffing that spot out. This was on a Lexus witch is known to have excelent quality paint. Birds are bad.

Red Jewel pinhead spots
Ordered my Red Jewel SS Manual at the end of June 2009. It came in on Sept. 19, 2009. I love it but it does have several paint blemishes like pinhead size on hood and trunk lid. You have to really look for them but I am a fanatic so i see them all the time. I really don't think I want the delaer messing with them though. Fix could be worse than problem. I recently had the dealer note them on the record in case they get worse with time. Its funny, the only Red Jewel SS I saw before ordering mine had the same type of problem but worse than mine. I thought it was just an anomaly with that one only. I think there may be an ongoing problem with this color only. But I don't have any proof.

First, I believe by the time your car arrived at your dealer, the paint was fully cured.
![]() Second, I've dealt with marks similar to yours and used 3M's Finesse-It to address the spots. It may take several attempts, but they can be removed. You'll want something with a mild abrasive. Once they are removed, you'll want to finish with a good wax/polish on the area affected. Ed |

If they are bad, you'll need a compound or polish to remove them. A wax or a sealant like Zaino won't really do anything. Bird droppings etch the clear just like you can use acid to etch glass. You have to remove a small about of clear to remove it, sometimes resorting to wetsanding. And sometimes its too deep and you're just screwed.
Oh and don't believe the the dealer "paint protection" will prevent this. If they warranty it, great. But double check. I believe the waranty is only if you come in when they say for the 2nd treatment. In the end though, its a complete rip-off (price-wise).

bird poop very bad, I had a couple of drops on my paint and even though I cleaned it fast it stained. I used a clear coat compund and water, worked it ever so slightly, waxing in between and finally got it out.
Pain in the a@#

Last nite I read through everyone's suggestions for improvements and problems they are encountering, it seems as though almost a third of the responses were related to paint chipping and pitting issues. I contacted Chevy directly and they said they hadn't heard of any complaints, but set up an appointment for me tomorrow to see the dealer for an inspection. I strongly urge anyone with such issues to document them through their dealer. Mayhaps if enough problems are reported something may be done to remedy our problems of chipping and paint imperfections.
