Compared to the Z/28, the SS does come up short. Saying that...it's better than anything in the same category!

I must admit that no way I would of ever predicted the Z/28 beating either of these, the 911 maybe, the GT-R no. ESPECIALLY on a damp/cold track. This sets the bar very high... I can't wait to see a dry Nurburgring time, I'm loving this car more and more

I can not wait to see what the Z/28 does on Laguna Seca. Maybe it bc I am more familiar with what is a fast lap there(or its my favorite track in forza lol)
This...the Z06 will be the GM gold std track car(as it should be).

What's important here (to me at least) is that GM did not artificially protect the performance envelope of the new Corvette by choking down on the performance envelope of the Camaro. That is a paradigm shift. As such, it is expected the "crown" will go back and forth, and we are all winners in such a contest.

Exactly...we as consumers can only benefit from GMs "inner battle".

Reminds me of '86-'87 when the Buick engineers intercooled the GN's 3.8 for more power (and also in 87 the GNX w/ way more power) and they were faster than the C4s. Granted performance in the 80s was meh at best but I remember reading articles about the Buick engineers having bumper stickers made for the test mules that said "I brake for Corvettes" lol. Pissed the Corvette engineers off. It's nice seeing GM not out to protect the "halo" car once again.

To be more specific the 2010-2011 SS doesn't handle great. The 2012-2014's handle better. And the 1le was introduced for 2013.
There were quite a few changes made to the 2012 SS, One of which involved modifying the floor of the trunk, to accommodate relocated supsension parts.

Looks like the Z/28 is a bargain after all. You could also conceivably put a blower on it too.

Sounds like the Z/28 the ran that day had the full A/C and stereo option.

And not to hammer this point, but this is why I will agree that the 1LE is just a package on the SS, but it is about the only package I have ever seen on a Camaro that completely redefines the car. It is not like the RS or 2SS packages. Neither of them redefine the car. Sorry for the rant!

They don't need to, and I think its blown out of proportion by people. The Z/28 may spank the C7 stingray around any given track, but these 2 are such polar opposites why would it even matter. Even when the Z06 with a the Z07 track package comes out, the Z06 will still be full featured car and not stripped out like the Z/28. Since the 2 are so opposite, might as well squeeze every last drop of performance out each platform.

close to 100hp is being left on the table by GM (although this is emissions)
if you put that kind of cam in it most of the drivability would disappear.

AS Much as they says the Z/28 is a strip out car, it's not!
The Z06 is as strip out, no more no less...

The two cars are not "polar opposites" in my opinion.

Check this board and elsewhere and you will easily read the angst in some people over which car to choose, and this is especially telling in the people who state they cannot afford the car and simply comment as unbiased observers. Such comments are telling because these people have no skin in the game either way, yet they are considering both cars.

There are differences, but the sum of those differences do not create polar opposites to this buyer. Unless I required four passenger seating, I may lean one way or another, but I would still consider both under the same tent and within comparable performance envelopes.

However, I agree with your comment that "[GM] does not need to protect the Corvette." My point was that there is a great temptation, unwise in my opinion, to do so. Yet GM allowed the Camaro engineers go out and do their thing as best they could, granting access to the Corvette Z06 engine as well as sharing the Brembo brake system with the Stingray Z06.

I thank everyone involved in the decision to respect the wisdom found in creating a competitive internal culture.

I want to see/drive the 2015 Stingray Z06 with the 8-speed automatic, that will be so cool to drive.

The Z/28 track tested against the 2015 Z06, now that would be interesting.

It won't take more than a month before we get the Z51 vs Z/28 comparaison and the result will tell the Full Z/28 story.

True, but the issue is I haven't seen any reviews of the updated SS so people will only see reviews talking about how it doesn't handle that well.

So a '02 ZO6 can best the '14 Z/28 at the drag strip in other words? Smh.

It's strictly built for track obviously. I wonder what the ratio of people who want a drag strip car or track car are?

Put up one of those survey threads and ask your question.

Why stop at Z06? Go for broke with the 2015 or 2016 ZR1. IMO, they should have never compared a N/A car against two turbo charged ones. So even up the playing field a tad. :-)
