1978 Z28

Alright guys i need some help...you guys might remember that i was going to pick up a cougar well the deal didnt go down...so im deciededing to stick with im looking at a 1977 and 1978 camaro and a 1979 and 1973 corvette. The one i need help on is the 78 Camaro. Its a Z28

here are some pics and the advertisment.

Quote:
This is a 1978 CAMARO Z28 350, Factory 4 speed, with 78,000 original miles,This car has been $POILED $ in everyway!! A west coast car, No rust issues, over 10,000. Was recently spent on Restoration. STUNNING new black paint job no scratches dings or dents!!, Its new mirror finish is absolutly beautiful to say the least!!!, all new original decals were added ,The intior has been redone in Velour/cloth..ALL the body lines,LINE up as they should, the doors DO NOT SAG at all. This a car came with factory air cond, however the hoses were unbolted when the engine was rebuilt, lines pump and brackets can be easly replaced any GM parts car?, or buy new.It has Tilt wheel, rear defrost, factory tach, radial tires,OK it gets better, The engine was Upgraded with a 350 GM goodwrench 4 bolt main 224-duration cam, airflow reseach 190 aluminum heads.eldelbrock performer rpm intake, holleycarb, headers ,flowmasters, afr estimated horsepower 400 hp on the engine and yes its FAST and snaps you back in your seat in any gear !!, Handles unreal sounds mean an lean, as we all know, these second generation z28s are getting more and more RARE than ever, especially the 4 speed cars, nothing like 4 on the floor! A PURE INVESTMENT thats only going up in value every year, unlike the stock market and property value, you will be pleased with this car.
What i need help with is how much do you think it is worth given the pics and info.

thanks for the help guys

The originality has been compromised on that one with the mods but it is a strong driver quality car. No AC is a bee-atch and it will cost a LOT to get it going again. I like it if you can get it for a good price. I have no idea how to price it but I would say it is worth less than a 100% stock one in the same condition.

ya im not really looking for a collector car (even tho if i buy this i will probably keep it for life) I'm just looking for something i can use as a DD and use as a weekend warrior. and 400 hp is a good was to start probably since its not going to be a collector in a few years i will turn it into a drag car. But like i said im just looking for a good DD that will put me back in the seat.

Edit...how much would you guys est. getting the air back to working condition think would set me back

also thank you for replying i was starting to think no one was going to reply haha

I would guess about $7000 is the most anyone would pay for it today. It looks much nicer than avereage as a driver but you have to allow for the AC being out. Does that sound like a reasonable number to you?

I think $7000. would be a pretty good deal for a car in that good of shape. The 4 speeds are getting up there in price and are loads of fun to drive. If the condensor is still in the car you should be able to replace the a/c with a good working used or remanufactored compressor and new lines for under $500. It looks like the stripes though are for a 77 Z28.

I dabbled more in late second gen Trans Ams and they're worth significantly more than the Camaros (probably the only generation where they are), not to mention as far as Camaros go, this is actually a pretty obscure model year. The desirables for second-gen Camaros include the early 70's cars when they used the split bumpers and round tail lamps or the 79-81's when they used the whacky Disco colors.

$7,000 is pretty reasonable nonetheless, considering the mods. But a true 4-speed car gives it some desirability. Throw her up on Ebay with a Buy-it-now of $9,000 or $10,000 and AutoTraderClassic with a similar price to test the waters. Don't forget to check NADA (but don't swear by it).

I agree.

We have a 78 Z28 with a 4 speed, black exterior with deluxe carmine interior - great/fun car. That car would go for $7,000+ here easily.

it would be right around average. the only reason it should go higher (because its not stock) is if it had an OMGWTFBBQ setup. but it just has a crate motor with some flashy accouterments added.

You got a hell of a deal for $8500. That car is CLEAN! You don't see too many '78 Z's around, and that particular color combo was not real common. These cars are going to escalate soon. Try to find the build sheet if you can, it's usually tucked into the padding behind the rear seat. You can access it in about 10 minutes. Push on the bottoms of the rear seats and they will unhook themselves. Then there are 2 bolts holding the seat-back of the rear seat. Take out the bolts, and the whole seat will swivel up. The build sheet will be tucked into the springs behind the seat-back. It will tell you everything about the car, options, rear-gears, colors, dates, etc...
