this is ridiculous, why would you void your warranty so you can shift by ear? I understand your old school but thats the way things are now...keep an eye on ur tach!

If you know what it sounds like when it's time to shift, or can associate the sound with the rpm.. it's the same as looking at the tach.. not difficult..

Good thing tach's aren't options like they were in the '69 Z/28 or half of you wouldn't be able to run the car!

what old fart is saying and it did happen to me is that whent the rev limiter cut the fuel the motor was still pulling hard i think that it is set to low.

Yes - you have to tune it out. Another option is to move the rev limiter up to the RPM you desire. Keep in mind that any tune can be reason for GM to void your warranty.

not to start a fight but u will get valve float at 7000-7500 these are factory valve springs not racing springs. just because a tach says something doesn't mean i will go that high. also the cam is not designated for high rpm you will actually loose power if u go higher. take a look at a stock dyno graph you can see the tq curve drop rapidly. the rev limiter is there for a reason don't mess with it unless u have properly built the engine for it. i say this not from reading books. i have built ls1/ls6 and are very familiar with the lsx family. not to mention they are not that balanced from the factory to run above 7500 rpm. again no to start a fight just some information for thought.

Good luck getting them to cover a warranty that is NULL and VOID from moving the rev limiter, and getting caught street racing.

but all tach's lag. I have hit the rev limiter a few times and the tach was a few hundred rpm's behind.

Nunzi Romano used to say rev limiters were for pussies but I am glad I have one.

On another note if GM designed the Camaro to be a drag car it would have a solid axle..........

Like you said GM opted to set the RPM limiter for durability, the LS3 engines are tuned for 100,000+ reliable miles from the factory. If you want to tune it for racing I think that's great but that's not what the warranty is for.

Is this a joke? Seriously? You really think since the tach goes to 9K you should go anywhere near that? LOL. Then you state "they run these motors at that all day". No, they don't. They run them at redline; which is exactly where you should be shifting. This puts you right back in the powerband following your shift for optimal performance. You got dusted for not knowing how to drive and bouncing off the rev limiter, not because of an issue with the car. It's there for a reason; to prevent engine damage from people like you. Jeez.

You took it way out of content ..... He's not saying take it to 9k because the tach goes that high..... He is just stating like some of us old schoolers, we shift by sound and don't watch the the tach. And to him the limiter is kicking in before he hit his sweet spot for shifting. He just wants to be able to add a few hundred RPM to the limiter. You will probably find some old timers that don't use the clutch when shifting either.... Use it out of the whole only ....
