Am I insane?

I'm new here so I thought I would break the ice by asking a question. I have a black 2012 Camaro 2SS RS that I purchased new in May of 2012. I just turned 5K miles today. I live in Michigan and it's a summer only second car so it's only on the road six months a year. Not only has the car never seen snow, it has also never seen rain. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts. I'm starting to think it's silly too but now it has become a mission of sorts, to keep it from being driven in the rain. What do you think, is this insane? Is there anyone else out there that doesn't drive their car in the rain?

first of all, welcome to the site!

secondly, its your car and if you dont want it driven in the rain, dont do it lol. i however daily drive mine, if i had another mode of transportation id probably use it in bad weather as opposed to the camaro.

To each their own! But... for me the car is more fun when I drive it! for some, it's more fun to look at! No slight intended, it's yours, do with it what you want.

Welcome, and yes your are insane.

Join my nutty club, I have 6 vehicles and my Camaro is also a fair weather car only. I drive it at least once a week. I put about 4K miles on it a year.

I don't drive mine in the rain, neither! But it's my weekend car! I don't even go anywhere on the weekends never did! So I find a reason to drive!

I have no problems driving my cars in the rain. I haven't seen a car yet, melt and a little dirt and rain won't hurt it any. Also I don't see the point of keeping stored for the next guy.

Hello and Welcome. Your Not nuts. But I only avoid the snow and salt with mine. It will clean up. Your not far from me, I live in Howell, work in New Hudson. You should check out our local club at detroit5thgen.com and the Rodgers Camaro show the coming Saturday.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'm not the only one that only drives their car on dry roads. I think I need to move to Phoenix so I can spend more time behind the wheel of the thing! Or maybe I'll just break down and get it wet.

My 2012 has just under 3K miles Dont care drive it when I want mainly around town. When the person giving you a hard time is paying your loan then they can dicate how/when you drive it until then enjoy it the way you want to.

Congrats on the car. Your not insane I never drive mine in the rain or snow not even on a wet road. My Camaro is 4 years old and still looks and smells show room new. The underside is as clean at the top and it has 15K miles on it. A lot of folks comment how nice the car looks and can't believe its 4 years old, enjoy your ride.

In my opinion if you keep from the rain to keep it from getting dirty and all that and want a spotless car more power to ya.

But if you do it because it's a camaro and shouldn't be driven in the rain as it's a sports car and it'll be a collectors item Chances are if/when u sell it it will eventually end up In the hands of someone who doesn't care and drives it all year or at least in the rain.

As my car is black if I didn't have to daily it I wouldn't but it's my only ride so I do. I would avoid the rain simply to keep it clean and not have to waste so much time and money on towels and wax but hey it's a labor of love I guess.

I will drive in rain if I have to, but usually avoid it simply because it's always spotless.

I live in an apartment, without assigned spots. And no coverage. The only thing I can do is get a cover to avoid rain. Luckily, everyone is pretty respectful of others cars and no one parks around me really. I have Yokohama all season tires, so I'll drive in the rain. Snow, I drive my F250 4wd.

I don't drive in the winter and try to drive on nice days but I don't stress if I'm caught in the rain. I just like it to stay clean too. I look at it as a reward for a nice day.

I took the Goodyears off of my 1LE and put on all seasons to enjoy driving it more. It's a car and it was made to handle weather (only the stock tires weren't). Even Al Oppenheiser has been beating a new Z/28 all winter.

If you want to keep it out of the rain, go for it! Not my cup o' tea however.
