Replaced shifter knob, now it rattles

Please help if you have experienced this too. My epco shifter knob came in today. They are great people to deal with Btw. It has an adapter built onto the knob, so an easy swap. However, @ mid rpms, right before shifting gears, the knob rattles and drives me nuts. It's screwed on properly, looks and feels great, but can't figure out why it rattles. Anyone have this issue? A fix?

I ordered the exact same one. I have not received it yet nor do I have the car delivered yet. This was a question I asked them specifically because I had the same issue when I had the Hurst on my 99 SS. When I asked her she stated they have never heard of this issue. Good luck and let us know what you find out because I will not be happy if I spent $100 and have a rattle!

Well if this is all true no matter how cool they look I will call Epco Monday and cancel. I would rather have no rattle than the shifter look extra cool!

So here's what I'm thinking. I took a pic for you guys just so you have an idea of what it looks like. I have some dynomat in the basement(dont even know why I bought it years ago) but there is more than enough gap between the top of the rod and the inside of the new shifter knob. I'm going to try some dynomat and see if it helps.

I have tried 3 different shift knobs, and they have all rattled. I think the biggest problem is that all the aftermarket knobs are very light in weight. The factory knob is weighted. The weight kills the chatter.

I saw a vendor that sold a weighted know, but I did not like the finish. I hope you can find a way to kill the rattle, cause that is a great looking knob.

Don't return it or give up hope. My solution worked. I've been driving for the last 2 hours, not a sound. Use the Dynamat. I doubled up, cut 2 small circles and put them on top of the rod before I put the shifter knob on. Love it.

so you put the dynomat on the shifter rod tip and then installed the shifter knob over that?

Teflon tape the threads or use silicone on the threads.

Exactly. Kills any noise and it finally feels like a real shifter knob in your hand

Novie, if you are asking about the 1 small screw on the side to attach the knob to the rod, I saved the factory one I took off(its a tapered head, doesnt fit right with the new knob) and didn't like the threads on the flat head screw epco sent me so I went to Lowe's a nd bought a 3pack 5 mil metric screws for 96cents. The threads on the shifter rod are not very high quality and easily damaged if you force the screw in. I did not use teflon or lock tight, just tightened well with an allen wrench

I like it!. I would like a white one with the shift pattern and black "SS" on each side of the knob, wonder if they make it?

Epco has great people to deal with and custom made in the USA. Not exactly cheap, I have the 2 1/4 inch, custom lettering that set me back $89 including shipping, but its not some crappy product from ebay either that may or may not fit. Just the rattle issue drove me nuts, but love it now with my fix
