I hope you guys understand the significance of this car being on the Nurburgring.

Fortunately here in Germany we also have one of the worlds most demanding and famous twisty country roads: the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Ok, calling it a country road is quite a drastic understatement. Let’s make it clear from the beginning: The Nordschleife is a racetrack. A quite hazardous, tight, and very long track that goes up and down and left and right like a roller coaster all the time. Because of its location in the green and hilly mountains of the volcanic “Eifel” region and its reputation for danger, the Nordschleife is also known as the “Green Hell”. Jackie Stewart coined the term and I think he’s damn right.

mini

Some quick facts, before I get into the details. The original Nürburgring track was built between 1925 and 1927 for automotive testing and racing. Today, there are two tracks, the new Grand Prix circuit where professional races like Formula 1 take place and the “old” Nordschleife.

The track through the green hell is about 13 miles long, has a difference in altitude of 985 feet and about 170 corners. In fact there is a lot of debate on how many corners there are. Whatever the actual number, there are simply too many to remember them all easily. It takes a lot of practice until you can claim to know the Ring. The Nordschleife is open to the public whenever it’s not booked for automotive testing or motor sport events, so there are quite a few bikers and drivers on the track on any given day.

That's definitely a roll cage. Look at the driver side window from the rear quarter angle. That thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I'd guess they only have it on there for safety on the Nurburgring. If that made it to production, that would scream badass.

IF they are in fact on the Ring...the powertrain under that baby is complete. Whatever it is. 6, or 8...it's done. It's suspention-tuning time!!!

-HUGE brakes.
-Beautiful car...as always. Yellow lights for the Euro test cars.
-and you know...those faux vents in the back are growing on me...I think they'll look just fine.

Here's the Left Lane News article.

Those yellow lights are only for the prototype. GM won't release lights like that in the US.

this is geting better and better by the day The package SS or Z28 will be awesome with Brembos

That's the best profile shot of a preproduction yet, and it is oh so sweet with those calipers!

Thank you GM

Soon there will be some vid of it tearing up the track. And hopefully there will be a noticeable whine as it flies by.

Hope to see some video soon.

GM tests alot of cars on the Ring now. The new Cobalt SS got lots of track time during development. I fyou want to test how well a car performs the Ring is one of the best if not the best place in the world.

I think this is the closest one to production yet. Did anyone notice the vented rear bumper and some sort of oil cooler right under the hitch maybe a rear diff cooler. Also the tail lamps are halogen not LEDs.
