Thumbs up new pictures on these See through tires . . .

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.

They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

A. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats...
SCAN DOWN &SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

I read an article on these a year or so ago, I think the only real complaint was that they weren't able to make a performance version of it.

All in all I think this is a great answer to the daily driver... Good stuff.

Actually, from what I remember seeing about them, they are lighter. There is a lot less rubber (which isn't really lightweight in tire form). That "honeycomb" structure is a "rubber-plastic" compound...it has the "memory" capabilities as well as the the structural and strength.

If I remember correctly, the biggest problem with them was the ride....it wasn't all that comfortable of a ride.

Maybe not a perfect solution, but definitely headed in the right direction.

What's keeping the manufacturers from putting a fake sidewall on 'em? That and different wheel options doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

If you just look at how the wheel reacts to road surfaces and how small the rim has to be for this system to work I think you will answer your own question.

I've heard that the the first big application for them will be in things like front end loaders. They don't need much lateral stiffness and they will never go flat.

Yep. Saw these a while back. Now, if they can just make them to where the rubber never wears down! Lifetime tires that never go flat!

That's freaking sweet! I would definitely rock those just to freak people out. I bet people would pull up next to me saying, "Dude, you're tires are ... weird!"
