Any takers of the Extended Warranty (GMPP)

My IOM 2SS/RS LS3 arrived last week and I couldn't be happier. I can't believe the attention it gets on the road and even at the dealership when I picked it up. My dealer in the Toronto area is pushing the Extended Warranty which ups the factory warranty on powertrain to 7 years (from 5) and the bumper to bumper to 6 years (from 3) for about $1700. It's not a true 'bumper to bumper' but it does cover pretty much anything major with the exception of wear and tear items like brake pads, wipers and part of the clutch assembly. The package is called GMPP--GM Protection Plus. The covered mileage remains the same at 60,000Kms--since it will be stored 5-6 mths a year the mileage isn't really the issue.

I searched the forums and didn't see much mention of owners picking up the Ext. warranty. Anyone with experience with this warranty package or advice to share?

I did. I'm one of the few guys on this site that wants to keep his Camaro 100% original. I have no plans to mod and I plan to have this car for a very long time.

If you don't buy it and wait GM will mail you a letter with a Discounted Extended Warranty option which is cheaper than 1700.

What I will do is watch the internet and see if there are any inherant problems before my warranty runs out. If there are none, I will keep my $1,700.00. I never buy these things unless I read about a specific recurring problem that GM will not address. You can buy the warranty at any time during the original warranty and the price is negotiable with the dealer, it is not hard and fast.

My car will be stored as well so I purchased a 6yr. 48,000 mi. bumper to bumper warranty directly from GM through my dealer for $800. You might want to check with your salesman.

I got a 7 yr/100000 miles bumper to bumper warranty, it also cover wheels and tires plus interior, such as cuts in the seat etc... plus a few free oil changes for 1549.00. It does have a 100.00 deduct after the original warranty goes out. To me it was worth it if I ever tear up one wheel and tire.

I hate to say it, but buying an extended warranty is a waste of money for 85% of the people who buy them, irregardless of make or model. I've been working on cars for 25 years, and don't care who pays me, warranty company or owner. Most new cars will go 100K with no major repair. Most smaller repairs are "wear items" and not covered. I might be tempted to get an extended warranty on a first year model, but normally most bugs will out themselves early in the cars life. If you put the money in the bank and use it for repairs, you will normally come out ahead.

My dealer gave me the warranty for $1295. I don't normally even consider these things, but being the first year on this car and the fact that it offered other benefits like a rental car if the car is in the shop for more than 2 hours (rather than the standard 8 hours) made it more worth my while.

Being a first year car and knowing the cost of the little electronics that can wrong aren't cheap, I bought the extended warranty. I got it for $700.00 not a bad deal in my opinion. I also got the road hazard coverage for the tires for $395.00 To my surprise, the road hazard doesn't just cover the tires, it also covered the wheels, rock chips in the windshield and door dings for 5 years. As long as there is a certain tread left on the tires they will fix or replace them if not repairable. The wheels are covered and will be replaced for 5 years if they are cracked or even if I hit something to bust them up. They will cover the cost of rock chips for 5 years and will meet me where ever I want them to to fix it. They will also do the paintless door ding repair for 5 years and like the windshield repair, will meet me where ever I want them to.

Got mine for $1,400 & 3 yrs worth of oil changes for $400 for standard motor oil. If I want to switch to synthetic, I'll bring it and they'll pore it in for me. other wise they'll charge me a diffrence of $100 each time and they'll spring for it. No thanks! i can get 6 qts of Mobil1 for $30.00

Extended warranty is a HUGE money maker for dealers - think about that.

I agree with derklug, and I bet that even less than 15% will get a good return on their money spent on the warranty.

RIP OFF!!!! The warranty is the number 1 money make for the dealer. On some cars they make more off the warranty than they do off the car sale. My dealer almolst got mad when I didn't even want to hear his well though out spill on why his 1700.00 warranty was so good.....

I wouldnt do it at least not righ away. One if you dont have the car for more than 3 years you waisted almost 2 grand. Two they will mail and hound you to do when your original will run out. Look at this way too how much do you drive the car and how many miles will you have at 5 years, if you estimate under 50k then whats the chances of things breaking?? Im torn between it, you have heard of people getting killed just as the warranty ran out. IMO i wouldnt buy it off the bat.
