Arrow CAI Comparison at LMR Dyno day

I had the opportunity to test Hennessey vs. LMR CAIs yesterday at the LMR Open House & Dyno event. When the LMR techs opened my hood it was easy to read their lips "Hennessey" as they saw my CAI. Of course comparing the two took about 5 seconds to agree on...

- (L99) The temps, as you can see were high, and my car had been sitting for 3hrs prior to Run#1. We made 2 pulls with each CAI installed. Only other mod is Corsa Catback... Stock Tune... This dyno sheet shows the best run for each CAI.

- Results: Gained 7.5 power and 14 torque with the LMR CAI. I'd say at least 15rwhp over the stockbox..

- Hennessey had the 1st 2 runs with the only delay between runs 3 & 4 being the swap out time.

- Definitely didn't want to remove HP from my car so LMR stays under the hood.

HUGE THANKS to Steven and crew. They really busted their collective A$$es yesterday and put on a first class event...

Interesting... Thanks for sharing.

Only you... good stuff!
Shame I just missed your runs.
Did run in to Chris H when I got there.

You are giving up on the HPE build now...?

I must have just missed you and Chris by minutes. Was headed out to the Astros game and couldn't hang any longer. I'm really anxious to see Chris' numbers but I guess you guys showed up a bit late. We'll get it on the dyno soon...

Not giving up just yet... this was small stuff, but a pretty cool comparison.

This looks a bit fishy to me. Why was the dyno graph printed in STD and not SAE? Why was there only 11% humidity in the dyno cell when it is usually 60-80% humidity in Houston. I will believe it when there is some independent test data.

By the way, just so I am clear about my perspective, I have the Hennessey intake kit on my SS and I love the sound, performance and look. I am also running about 575 rw hp with their blower kit and a few other tweaks. I just think a plastic cold air kit looks cheap like stock. So I will say that I am biased.

Definitely no bias with me, I'm pretty happy with both shops and have been a big Hennessey supporter... (check my posts) Humidity for yesterday afternoon was in the low 30s around the time of this run. So inside 11% sounds about right with a little A/C.

I also have no problem reproducing the results on an independant dyno. There were a lot of people watching this one pretty close so if magic was done they are pretty good. I'm not sure how STD vs SAE would make a difference. I could use some educating in that area....

Like I said this is small stuff... your chrome blower probably does look better with a Hennessey CAI. I'm kind of thinking the Carbon Fiber look is going to match up nice when I get finished painting CGM under the hood.

.....and the extra HP couldn't be ignored...

Any chance you can post the graphs with A/F as well?

Thanks,

So wait...you guys are saying the LMR CAI gets almost 8 HP and 14TQ MORE than the Hennessey?

Am I reading that wrong?

You are reading that correct... and Hennessey got the first runs... LMR was a hot run.

From the videos it doesn't quite sound like they got on the throttle the same way with both runs. For the 10 or so dyno runs that I was there for yesterday (I must have left rght before yours because I remember seeing that blue Viper run), it seemed that the first pull was a warm up pull and they really got on it during the second pull. I know they certainly did for my run and there was a 4.5hp difference between the two runs with no other changes.

Hopefully these numbers would hold true on another dyno somewhere else. If so, that's awesome and I wish LMR would make a CAI for the v6 too.

I saw your car but didn't know who you were there. Wish we could have met up.

True the first video is also the first dyno run. Notice the guy says 322 at the end. But the he Dyno Sheet shows the second run which was the best Hennessey run at 325.

The second video is the 3rd Dyno run at 333 with the LMR CAI.

Ahh the skeptics. Don't worry, there were 50 or so of us watching this happen yesterday and everyone was a skeptic, including the LMR crew. Josh even commented right before doing the dyno on the LMR to the crowd that "This could turn out very good, or it could turn out very bad for LMR."

There was no funny business, it was done in front of everyone and pulls were done back to back. The two dynos shown above were the best two pulls from each airbox.

Good to meet you yesterday Mike!

Tony

Makes sense to me that hennesy makes less power for a few reasons:

Their heat sheild does not seal off very well when compared to the LMR.

Their intake tubing is 2 pieces, so there is one more joint for air to run over and create turbulence, and turbulence is not something you want in your air flow

Just my .02

Again, not doubting the results, but I would like to see A/F with the different intakes. It is possible that the difference in gains were A/F related.

Thanks,
Crowley

LoL, Sorry my friend, but nothing fishy going on. We did this TEST in front of over a couple hundred people. We had a huge dyno day/car show and while straping down one 2010 Camaro I noticed the Hennessey CAI system. I asked the customer if he would mind us installing our CAI system after we did a baseline on his to see the results. Trust me, it could have made us look like idiots if the results dropped but knowing our product I knew it would out perform theirs. That is why I took the risk of doing it in front of so many people. Keep in mind that we dynoed the Hennessey CAI system first so the motor was already heat soaked for our CAI runs and it STILL picked up 8 rwhp and 14ft lbs of torque over the old system that was on his car. Like I have posted in other threads, I am more than willing to put our CAI system up against any other system on the market today. If anyone has any questions please feel free to give me a call at the shop.

Wow, I am very impressed.

I guess that plastics and heat shield really make the difference.

LMR is very rapidly moving to the top of my list for a CAI...
Thanks for the info

It's a great product. But in the end, it's a CAI...

This has just sold me to LMR. Only thing left to see is when Vararam gets there CAI out on the market to see there #'s. But probably going with LMR anyway.
