500 HP with no SuperCharger?

Hey guys I'm looking to try and take my SS to the 500 club but I need your help....I only have 3 things in mind

Hennessey Air intake+ Borla Long tube Headers w/ss exhaust+ a tune= 500????

I'm pretty sure I won't reach 500, any ideas how to improve my output without a Supercharger?

It you're talking about RWHP you can get there by adding a CAM.

Max you'll get with your current plan is:
L99 - 380 range
LS3 - 420 range

You won't without some internal engine work. With those mods you'd likely be around 420(ish) give or take on an LS3 to the wheels.

edit: NYRfan beat me to it. lol.

FYI^^they're referring to rear-wheel horsepower, not under-the-hood(crank, drivetrain, flywheel whatever you wanna call it) in which you'll be pretty close.

You have an L99
L99 = Auto - 400 HP from factory
LS3 = Manual - 426 HP from factory

NO PROBLEM,
I have 511 RWHP with SW headers/turbo mufflers, Stage 3 cam, Roto-Fab intake and 4:11 gears.

NO internal engine parts required,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a CAM internal?

I wouldn't purchase the HPE intake, plenty of other intakes out preformed that unit at a better price. Anywho ... Getting up to 500+ NA you'll need all your normal bolt ons plus a aggressive cam and tune to boot. Check out the NA-Bolt on section to get a better idea.

500 crank hp is easily attained with bolt-ons and a good tune. 500 wheel hp (what really matters) can be done with all of the above and a good cam (on a stock Ls3). L99 is going to be tougher to get 500 to the wheels without internal mods.

What brand or store carries one of the top CAMS?

Here's some things you should know:

500rwhp in an automatic car weighing 4000lb raceweight is capable of running about 11.50 ET's at the dragstrip. At 11.49, you must put in a rollbar to keep running. You DON'T want to do that.

More commonly though 500rwhp is going to allow 11.80-11.70 ET's.

If you want a hassle free life, cap it at 500rwhp max, and do it using the factory catalytic converters.

BUT ...

The biggest bang for your buck is putting in a higher stall converter, and getting the engine dynotuned by a pro. This can knock 1 second off the ET of an auto, and won't affect your mileage or emissions if done right. It is a RIGHT NOW seat of the pants jump in acceleration, even though you didn't increase HP much, if any.

Now at that point if you feel it's not quick enough, then do the cam, intake, longtubes, and potential have to fight with the DMV every couple of years, and pay for more fuel.

You will have to do the higher stall with a cam anyhow. And most tuners give you a good deal when you come in to get your car freshened up because you did more modifications.

I spend a lot of time trawling (not trolling )these boards planning my mods. I can give you the gist of what i've gleaned...

There are a number of good places to get a cam, but two really seem to stand out on these boards:

Remove VVT (variable valve timing), convert your L99 back to an LS3 and work with Lethal Racing (Night Fury cam)
Or

Keep VVT and let Rhino79 at GPI custom grind one for you.

Personally I've got an automatic and plan to give GPI a call when I'm ready for a cam.

*** DISCLAIMER: I do see plenty of other cams mentioned. These two companies just seem to have larger followings and I don't think I've ever heard anything negative said about either of them.

If you plan to do AutoX, road course events or spirited canyon driving you do not want a converter. Prior to tuning I would do some suspension mods, a CAI, ported throttle body and some high flow cats. It sounds like your willing to void your pt warranty, but, you have to remember that LT headers, high flow cats and CAI's are all illegal in CA. Consider your long term goals. Also, the Hennessey CAI is not one of the best CAI's.
