I delivered a few Camaros this weekend, thought you all might like to see the keys

Really short video showing some details about the new Camaro keys. People who take delivery of Camaros will be getting a key separated from the fob.

I don't know exactly how folks who have switchblade keys already are going to be handled, but I'll keep you posted.

I want to see the new keys, as in for the Camaros that haven't been built with those key fobs... What will the 6th gen have?

We'll have to wait and see I guess. But those are the same keys we would get in return for the recall getting performed...

How does this affect camaro's with remote start? I noticed there is no rewind button on the new fobs.

The ignition switch in the Camaro is mechanically dissimilar to the units found in the cars affected by the huge GM ignition switch recall. The Camaro recall has nothing to do with the ignition itself, and everything to do with it being possible to hit the key with your knees.

Here's a video I did showing what it's about.

As soon as I get those keys you'll get pics and a video. For now, I'm assuming keys will be modified fobs.

I'd bet 2016 Camaros will all have push button start and transponder keys like the Corvettes, except for COPO and z/28 versions.

This was a 2LS so it wasn't equipped with remote start. The fob will operate as usual except the switchblade function is removed.

Great videos, but Im not going to get my keys switched. Just like you mentioned in the previous video, I would have to seat myself in a position that would not be normal for me to actually hit the key fob with my knee.

I've got my ear to the ground on this one, as soon as I get word about whether a key swap will be a requirement I'll let the forums know.

I think GM has miraculously come up with a solution for which no problem really exists. No thank you, I will keep my switchblade.

Yes, GM has gone off the deep end on this one ! I will be keeping my switchblade. It's just like the Volvo I had.

I've not switched mine either and I won't ever be. They'll have to come forcibly pry them from me and that isn't going to happen either. Ridiculous! My knee has never hit the fob.

GM has suddenly made the business case for push butto start on all cars.

My dealer already offered to swap mine under the recall, and upon declining I just had to sign the work order waiving blah blah blah because it's a safety thing. I still have my fob and won't be bothered anymore about it.

Why not the z/28? Most real race cars have a toggle start momentary switch on a board. Why not give a z the same condition but a fancier button. I doubt there is much more to weight saving. Just MHO.

I understand GM's fear and their "need" to react to this situation by providing a solution (for potential future liability reasons), but I'm keeping my original switchblade key and will NOT be allowing it to be changed out. I'm glad I got in on this before the GM recall!

I appreciate the videos, Mike, but what a crock of crap. Both you and the young lady had to contort your leg/knee to change the key position. It is still my belief that it is the poundage of crap people attach to their car keys that causes the problem - NOT the switchblade FOB. If they had FOBs that have no way to attach crap to it - problem solved.

Seems funny how some manufacturers use the entire fob as a key and it gets inserted completely into ignition slot to start the car. There you go no way to hit it, and no way to hang crap off it.

The Camaro key recall is not the same recall as the Cobalt recall.

Believe whatever you like, but the issues are completely different. I guess I can understand your confusion, however, both recalls deal with the ignition switch, and both cars were manufactured by GM.

This video shows nothing that anybody that has been keeping up with this recall didn't already know. Key fob with key shank removed and fob left with chrome button to nowhere and empty slot on side. What is GM shipping the latest 2014's with from the factory? Gutted key fobs? How about the 2015's ? Will they come with a redesigned fob without inoperable buttons and empty slots? That's the news I want to hear and see.
