Undecided Ordering -- LS3 or L99??

I finally have the green light to place my order. It appears that that the only cars available right now are autos, at least in Aqua Blue. In terms of engine and driving performance, should I wait for the manual LS3 issue to be resolved, or go down to my local dealer and buy the car with a auto. Is the LS3 worth the wait?? I don't care if it is an auto or manual, I just want the best performance??

Best performance? Go with the LS3. There is no hold on it, order the one you want. I wouldn't hesitate to get the auto if you don't have a preference either way, but if you want the highest performance, go with the LS3.

There is no current manual issue for the 1,000,000 time, there was a temporary issue way back at beginning of July that has long since been resolved.

I appreciate your response. what does Viz mean when he refers to the "shut down"....I've seen this terminology in several posts recently.

He is referring to everything running smoothly since the one week mandatory shutdown the first week in july. That shutdown would of taken place regardless of any manual issues. Its typically two week summer shutdown while plants retool, but due to popularity of camaro it was limited to one week.

LS3 without a doubt for the performace aspect. If you drive in alot of traffic, you may want the L99. Either way, it is still a CAMARO..

I wanted the manual, but dealership had the exact car I was about to order coming in with an automatic (no one on waiting list to get it). Needless to say I bought the car and had it within 3 days. Compensation is that if i want to play,I can use the paddle shift in manual mode. Order whats going to make you happy. Goodluck!

In the long run I think the L99 is going to be the way to go. It's going to be the fastest between the manual and auto. There maybe some issues come up with performance, but I have not experienced any problems with my A/SS2. It runs great.

If you don't care about driving in traffic, go with the manual. However, if you are going to mod your car, the L99 will give you the best performance in the long run.

Why are some people saying the LS3 will do better with mods and then others are saying L99?

What data is being used to come up with those conclusions?

Mostly personal opinion. The only real difference between the engines is the cam and lifters, so if you swap those out on the L99 you will have LS3 output along with the more aggressive gearing of the L99, plus the ability to put a stall converter, which is a nice advantage of the auto car.

I think when people talk about the LS3 being easier to mod, they are talking about simpler mods, such as a CAI, headers, etc, as opposed to a cam. If you are planning on a cam swap/afm delete, then the L99 would probably end up faster than the LS3.

Also, a lot of people don't realize that an automatic car will always dyno lower than the same engine in a manual car, but that doesn't mean the auto won't be faster.

I'll buck the trend and say: go with the L99. Just as fast, and it gives you the paddle shifters if you really want to play.

L99 All the way

Go with the Auto, If you will be in traffic, that stick will get old fast, and you will regret it, the auto is plenty good performance, PLENTY good!

-just my 2 cents anyway...

as jay leno say, "a manual is a drivers car, an automatic is a riders car"

so if you want to have complete control over the car get manual. if you want to ride and not have complete control over the car, go with auto.

i prefer manual b/c i like to drive my car, not ride in it.

The auto requires more tuning because of its vvt and transmission anything you do to it is a headache of tuning. there is a lot less tuning involved on the ls3!!!! if you want to put down a quick 400-450hp without breaking the bank go with ls3 and if you are rich and can afford to spend some seriuos money on transmission work and tunning then go with it. I just prefer to keep things simple all I have to do is spend $400 on a clutch and Im good to go!

I'm getting the LS3 because I plan on driving this car on sunny weekends from June to Sept. and want to "drive" the car as opposed to ride in it.
