What is this sound? (Start up choke)

SOLUTION

Well y'all, she's back.

And I have an answer.

As it turns out, the choke on the start up was caused by "excessive carbon build up" on the throttle body. The tech took apart, cleaned, reassembled and relearned the idle. THIS LAST STEP IS IMPORTANT. Over time the carbon on the throttle body caused the throttle to relearn a new position.

NOW, normally I would say this all sounds like bull.... But it worked.
And its only crazy if it doesn't work.

I have been driving the car for a week now just to be sure before I posted, and so far, i have not had one start up issue.

On to the cause of the build up...
bad gas quality.

Now, due to no fault of mine, all the gas where i was out at school was crap gas. I had no choices.
Now that I have transferred schools, I am able to get the good stuff.

Good Luck to anybody else experiencing the issue. Maybe you can tell your dealer where to start.

ORIGINAL POST
Ok guys, this is starting to get to me. My car has gotten to the point that I can predict when this will happen.

Basically, after the car is driven, if I wait around 30 minutes to an hour and go start the car, it coughs like this. This is ONLY when the car is already been driven and warm. Start it and it coughs, shut it off, restart and back to normal, starts just fine.
Cold start is also normal.

Help me out. I'm getting upset at this point.

Just throwing it out there, might be a heatsoak issue. I had a jeep that would run rough only if started 10-30 minutes after being full warm. One of the injectors was getting heatsoaked, so the fuel would vaporize. This leaves one of the cylinders without fuel for a few seconds. The TSB solution was to insulate the offending injector that was subject to high temperatures from the intake manifold.

Like I said, I may be off base, but the symptoms are similar.

Sounds reasonable.

I know I've had a few issues with heat soak after my cam. The un coated headers are giving off some serious heat. Getting coated headers and heat wrapping the fuel lines and wiring should help solve it. If you've been tuned, it's time to ditch stock manifolds if you haven't already

Hmmm, that happens to me too after the car is warm everyday now. Cold starts are fine. Sometimes the car even makes a pop noise when I start it. It's been doing this for like a year now and had it for a little over 3 years.

Some good thoughts.

Engine is totally stock.

Any other ideas?

Sounds like your A/C compressor clutch kicked in.

Try starting with A/C off.

Have them check the fuel pressure to make sure it is holding in the lines after the car is shut off. My car did a similar thing recently and it turned out the fuel pump was bad.

Yep, ^^
Before you go chasing vacuum leaks and heat soak issues, check the fuel/air/spark first.
I'd bet on a fuel pump issue first. After that an ignition issue.
Make sure the pump is always kicking on when the key is turned, hot or cold and check the pressure obviously. Go out and drive it, if you can make the car have the symptom, you're light years ahead of chasing an intermittent issue! Good luck!

It's not it. Even with the A/C off, it still hesitates to start.

My guess is right along with these guys, it could be a fuel pressure issue.

Unrelated but kinda similar, my Yamaha FZ1 tends to do this after it's been sitting for awhile after being hot. I'll go hop on and it will start then die a few times before it will stay running.

That doesn't explain why it's fine on cold starts.

Yeah I guess we are the only two with this problem and happen to be 2011 models.

Here is a video of a POP sound when starting the car. Any people on this helpful forum possibly know what may be the issue??? It sounds pretty bad and does it randomly when car is warm.

Please excuse messy garage. In the middle of cleaning it.

Man... sounds like rod knock but obviously is not. A knock that loud would manifest more than that.

I'd say maybe you have a header or exhaust hitting under the car?

But since there is more than one of you I'd say starter?

The audio is great but I can't think of anything. I'm just throwing them out there.

Exhaust headers and back will expand when hot and the motor shakes the most at start up.
