Uh... Federal Reg is just like Cali. The days of the 49 state cars is long gone.

It's no more legal to remove emissions equipment in Texas than it is in any other state.

Like Hennessey's World's Fastest Production Street Car. Not legal for sale in that trim anywhere in the USA as a new car, street registered.

The fact you can pass California Emissions with a 1200HP Bugatti Veyron or a 707HP Dodge Hellcat tells you something. Some shops are just too lazy to get the power and keep the emissions down. Too much work. Bumped our Z06 from 405HP to approx 450HP without affecting emissions. Tuning and tweaks with the cats in place.

Trust me, if you're in any Smog Check state, you'll eventually get sick of stripping off the emissions equipment. It might take 12 years like it did me, but you will tire of it. And now that many tracks have noise limits too, even dragstrips, making monster power and keeping the car registered will be sign of a true engine tuner.

Hennessey is the Teflon Tuner. He really screws up, but somehow gets tons of press anyway. He the Kim Kardashian of Tuners.

For those Cali Sucks folk:

http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/airquali...tampering.html

"Violators are subject to penalties under the Texas Clean Air Act of up to $25,000 per violation."

In California though, you can get a turbo kit add-on smog certified. In Texas you can't:

"Adding a part that was not originally certified on the car, such as installing a turbocharger."

Even if it IS CARB approved.

Can you remove smog for Off Road Use Only in Texas?

"A catalytic converter may not be removed from a motor vehicle that is currently being used only for off-road driving."

I honestly believe he uses that Not For Sale in California as a selling point.

I love my camaro so don't get me wrong. Why didn't they do all this from the beginning.. Or at least make like a Z28R. GM LS7 CNC Heads on LSX 454 block with a LSX mainifold.. I doubt it adds any extra weight.. They all ready have the parts in the performance mag..

If Hennessey puts a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and will honor the Federal emissions minimum warranty for parts, then go for it.

GM has deep pockets, Hennessey might get fined a couple hundred thou worst case. GM has to warranty the cars by law or face huge fines.

And you do know the Z/28.R makes 400HP right? It's a factory sealed engine and ECM from GM with an intake restrictor and 6300rpm rev limiter.

Apparently it's virtue is not megapower, but a good chassis.

LSX block are cast iron, so they are heavier than the OEM LS blocks.

Well said. Somehow, all of his screw ups and borderline frauds, regarding how he treated out-of-state customers, didn't really seem to stick and tarnish his reputation. He may have changed his ways, but I'd be far more likely to buy a Prius than give Hennessey one cent of my hard-earned money...

I have some info on this you guys might find interesting. I spoke to Katech about working on my Z/28's engine after getting it and they told me they will no longer install long tube headers on cars. If you want long tube headers, you need to install them first before sending the car to them and sign a wavier stating you installed it prior to sending it to them. By federal law, you aren't even allowed to move the location of catalytic converters, which would happen with long tube headers. It doesn't even matter if it can pass an emissions test after it's been modded.
