IS IT 2009 YET???
|
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH…FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!
For months we have debated back and forth “The Top Dog will be THIS or the Top Dog will be THAT”.
I’m tired! I can’t take it anymore; GM will release the Info soon enough. So speak now and forever hold your peace, or until they announce the SS or Z/28 as the top dog (or a combination of the two…Or maybe something new altogether). Then you can bitch and moan about the decision made…and why your choice of Top Dog wasn’t chosen. Now vote (on the pole) for the model / Trim level you think (or hope) to be the Top Dog. Add a post to claim which one you voted for…and if you guess correctly, you can brag about your brilliance until the cows come home! These are based of speculation, my imagination and a little silliness! If you like one of these options, but think it needs to be tweek for your guess, state that in your post!

I choose the LS3 supercharged. I don't know about the HP rating, but if it's got 500+ I'd be happy.

I think it will be the LS8 (supercharged) in the SS trim. I think that the Z-28 will be a handling package, and the RS will be an appearance package.

I voted Z28 LSA, but are there any advantages to the LSA over the s/c LS3/76?

i have a feeling that in the begging the top dog will be an LS3 with over 430. But eventually later we'll see the LSA once the new C7 comes out to keep the C6 some breathing while the Maro is out.

Well, the LSA is designed to be supercharged over the LS3/76. It has lower compression, forged crank (and rods, I think...), and such. I'm not sure if larger head bolts and the heat-treated heads carry-over from the LS9, but there could be those too. Again, the LSA is just beafy from the outset, for supercharging, where the LS3/76 is NA.

I chose the SS LSA because to me, it just makes sense. It would be more cost effective to expand its use to the Camaro rather than develop a brand new motor or use one such as the LS9 that employs exotic components.
As far as the name game, and this is just MHO, while the Z/28 was the top dog back in the day, there has been no mention by anyone at GM that this trim level will even exist. Furthermore, I believe that modern day society associates the SS moniker with the top dog performance model (think 4th gen, TBSS, any other model GM has stuck that badge on recently). As much as I believe GM wants to revive the Z/28 as the HIPO model, I believe that the SS will hold that position for marketing reasons.

This is not a question that can be polled. It's not up to us. It's up to Chevrolet. Names don't matter. Just give me my 400 horses!

My two cents... Would not think you would have a combined performance package such as the Z/28 and the SS. No sense there but that does not mean anything. GM is bringing back the ZR1 as the big dog for the Corvettes and I think that there is enough nostalgia left in the GM ranks that they would lean towards the Z/28 as the Full Meal Deal. I am a first Gen guy so that is what I am heavily relying on, for better or worse. Who knows... maybe they will just call the base V8 the SS and go for the gusto and pull the ZL1 in as the commander in chief of the Camaro line. All aluminum tire shredder... I would not mind parking that in my garage next to my 69 RS.

It's like a detuned LS9. Some of the internals are weaker so I'm personnaly a little leary of how it will stand up to mods like a pulley change or better Super Charger. As far as the poll, Why does the "Top Dog" have to be chosen from Z28, SS, or RS options? Who's going to be the Shelby, Saleen, or Roush for the Camaro? Anyone wana make a prediction on SLP or Lingenfelter? Wouldn't an arrangment between GM and those guys help Gm with the CAFE requirements? |

Just to mix things up, how do you like these?
• Camaro: 260 hp (I4 turbo) • Camaro S: 300 hp (V6) • Camaro RS: appearance package (add to anything) • Camaro Z28: 400 hp (LS3) • Camaro SS: 495 hp (LS7) • Camaro USSDS*: 1000 hp (13.6L 32-valve Cadillac V16) *USSDS—Unholy Supreme Super Duper Sport

I just read the autoblog article on the LSA and how it compares to the LS9. and I was just floored by the specs that were explained in grave detail and the photos that were displayed and I must say.. I AM IN LOVE!
I read on how it is using less 150kPa to maintain its power and airflow. That is very impressive! I am still learning as I go when it comes to HIPO engines, but that is why I have you guys (and a thesaurus). I am looking at the location of the altenator and it is bringing back memories of my 95 Monte Carlo Z34. To change it, the axle boot(well also depending on one's tools) has to be broken down. Well that is what I experienced, but this one may be different. Not that it would be an issue, the engine looks awesome, and that supercharger, My thing, how much would this bad boy cost? If the price is obtainable, I may have to re-cast my vote! |
