93 Octane? Norman area?

My wife has a 9/21/09 TPW and mine has just made it to 3000 and no TPW.

We've been reading posts about making sure to run 93 Octane in the 2SS models but I haven't been able to find a station that has 93?

Anyone in the Norman/Moore/Purcell area found 93?

Crulgrl, one of those on the truck may have been mine. My ABM 2LT was shipped from OKC to Bartlesville yesterday. I picked her up today!

I'm looking too. My car just arrived today on the train so I hope to pick it up early next week . I think I heard of a station off of I44 and sw134th area - some truck stop. I will be looking this weekend. Want to break it in with 93 and using the break-in method from one of the other posts.

Wish I knew where they parked the train so I could go peek at it. Dealer said train depot on reno - where ever that is.

Congrats on it being in OKC! Well, if you or anyone else finds 93, post it here! I guess 91 is fine, it just won't be at the maximum performance - which is why I bought my car. My wife will do just fine on 91.

there was some previous posts to the affect that we don't need 93 here. has to do with the altitude or something.

In the Nichols hills area off of N. Western Ave. is a shell station that sells 93 octane gas. They also sell 101 octane racing fuel. If you are heading north, it will be on the left. Both fuels are very expensive...

Interesting. That would be nice considering what I've read 93 cost. I'll see if I can find the post, or at least something authoritative about that.

Thanks for the post.

Well, altitude does have something to do with it. Oklahoma is not as high as the "Rocky Mountains," but, maybe this explains why it seems we can only find 91 in Oklahoma.

Regional variations
The selection of octane ratings available at the pump can vary greatly from region to region.

In the Rocky Mountain (high altitude) states, 85 AKI is the minimum octane, and 91 AKI is the maximum octane available in fuel. The reason for this is that in higher-altitude areas, a typical combustion engine draws in less air per cycle due to the reduced density of the atmosphere. This directly translates to reduced absolute compression in the cylinder, therefore deterring knock. It is safe to fill up a car with a carburetor that normally takes 87 AKI fuel at sea level with 85 AKI fuel in the mountains, but at sea level the fuel may cause damage to the engine. A disadvantage to this strategy is that most turbocharged vehicles are unable to produce full power, even when using the "premium" 91 AKI fuel. In some east coast states, up to 94 AKI is available [1]. In parts of the Midwest (primarily Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri) ethanol based E-85 fuel with 105 AKI is available [2]. Often, filling stations near US racing tracks will offer higher octane levels such as 100 AKI.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Edit: I found that you can deduct 2 Octane per 5,000 ft. above sea level. So, it's okay in Colorado at 5,000+ ft. to run 91. However, OKC is about 1,200 feet. So, I'm thinking we still need 93.?.?

Congrats! My wife's is supposed to be built next week... mine the week after! I can't wait to post the arrival of ours! We finished the wait from 1100 to 2000. Now we wait for them to be built. Then we'll wait for them to be delivered.

I assure you this has not really helped my patience at all!

Congrats again.

We meet at the St. Jude's on Saturday. I have loaded my pictures on the Glover site on Camaro 5. If you are still having problems try loading them one at a time. And if that doesn't work go to Photobucket.com and reduce the size. Hope this works for you.

Thanks Lester. Enjoyed visiting and talking about the cars. Hope you have luck saying buy to your sweet vette. I've tried loading one at a time and no luck. Thanks for the suggestion to use Photobucket.com. I'll see if works. If it does I'll load the pics I took.

Hey guys I'm pretty new to this posting stuff, even though I have been coming to this site for a while just to see what has been going on with anything that has to do with a Camaro. The reason I joined was because I just found out that my car has a VIN now!!! I live in the Tulsa area and am hoping to get my Camaro by sometime next week maybe even the week after.

Does anybody in the norman/moore/edmond/okc area have a camaro with a magnaflow cat-back exhaust? Either the comp or the street. I really want to hear what it sounds like in person compared to my stock exhaust.
