octane boost

So with all the ho-hum about dealers putting in 87 octane before delivery, would it be beneficial to run a can of octane boost in the first tank to make sure it didnt happen to you? gonna take delivery soon and not sure on the "shadyness" of my dealer. any input would be helpful.

tell him not to fill it up until you pick it up .dealers do take requests you know .good luck when you get it . by being there you will know what they put in .

yeah i did say something to him. there is a good chance i will be out of town for work when it comes in and i was just looking at it as a precautionary measure. i was thinking if it would screw with the computer then i might do it just in case.

Octane boost does nothing. Many test show it actually hurts performance since they really have nothing in them that helps your car.

No problem. I looked into it when my car was running slow and after reading about 10 different lab test all the stuff off the shelf is worthless. The only thing that maybe you could do is see if you could go to a drag strip and fill up with the real high octane stuff.

But the GM guys says it would take like a tank or two to raise it back up.

I was once a member of clubhotrod forums and there were some old timers on there and quite a few people who raced in all different categories. I remember a thread about octane boost and basically they said anything off the shelf will be useless, may keep your system clean but that's about it. Some octane boost is actually harmful to emission equipment so use it with caution. A booster substitute would be Xylene or Toluene, both of which you can find at a paint store or some hardware stores. Toluene was the recommended choice and Xylene was known to cause some seals and rubber lines to dry out.

Do some research, there is tons of info on this... Personally I would probably stay away from both as I don't know enough about it to risk it
