Parking in single car garage, any issues?

I've got a a single car garage and I'm wondering if anyone is having difficulties parking their 5th gens in them.

It's probably a stupid question but, my previous car was a Honda Prelude (let the flaming begin ) and it felt quite wide for the garage... I've checked the specs and the Camaro is 6 inches wider!

I've got a work bench and a shelving unit on the left wall, so I'm thinking I may have to move everything to the back wall to accomodate the car.

Anyone experience any problems with this?

I have a 2 car garage so no problems.....but make sure when you open the door, if it's close to the wall, be very careful. When getting out of the car, the first door stop hardly leaves enough room to exit. When you push the door open a little more, the door will kind of fly away from you and you'll ding your door edge on the wall.

I have a 2 car garage and I have been getting out of the car to make sure the rear bumper clears the garage door before I shut it down. I will hang a tennis ball from the ceiling as a distance guide this weekend. Ball hits the windshield, car is on the right spot!

Put some padding on the wall(s) where you'll be opening doors, and use a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling to touch your windshield when you should stop

its pathetic, I know, but I went to the Wiki page, pulled the dimensions and chalklined my single car garage to make sure i fit- I'll clear the garage rails by about 4" per side...that's gonna be one tight fit! length, I'll have to clear some 5 gal paint drums & the cornhole boards will have to move, but she's gonna fit. I'm determined!

You do realize that the dimensions listed on the Wiki page for width (75.5") do not include the mirrors...

A single car garage door opening is a nominal 8' wide (96" less trim, hardware, etc.).

The garage itself should be a nominal 10' wide, so it will go in.

The problem will be since it's a two-door car, the doors are wider and could possibly hit the walls, (or anything against the walls), when you open the doors.

Pull your car in, open each door slowly, note where the edge of the doors open to, and then clear or protect that spot.

Ditto on the warning about the doors opening. HANG ON TO THE DOOR when opening it, as the second notch is much farther than the first so it's deceptive. The door is long and wants to swing very wide on that second notch, and it practically throws itself towards that second notch. When I say hang on, I mean control the opening by holding the door handle; don't let the door open itself or you'll hit something next to you for sure.

from most images and from pulling them into AutoCad and 3Dmax, the mirrors, for the most part still fall within the width of the rear "hips".

Agreed. I've done this a number of times and I have the paint chips to prove it. I'm not sure why the first notch on the door is so close. It's extremely hard to get out of the car with the door open to the first notch. And my seat is almost all the way back.

I wish they would have allowed the door to open about 6 more inches on the first notch.

LOL we are getting estimates to have a 2nd garage built esp since the corvette had to give up its garage space. The Camaro definately takes up more room!

I have a single car garage with the fireplace from my den bumped out into it on one side. Because of this bump out i have to back the camaro in or i can't open the drivers side door. I clear the mirrors with about 3" on each side. I have a padded floor mat hung on the wall where the drivers door opens. With the nose as close to the door as possible I still have room behind the car to open the refridge door that is in the rear of the garage.

It works but dont plan on using the garge for much else.

I would but software guys don't tend to carry a tape measure to work.

I did the legwork for you though using Google and here's the info requested:

Passenger side mirror width is 9.25 inches
Driver's side mirror width is 8.50 inches

now that's impressive- thank you!...
you software guys need to figure out a better way to integrate phototgraphs into AutoDesk AutoCad and the like... it's a PITA to scale and rotate as it is... says the software user, while holding his scale...

My Camaro is quite a tight fit in my 1950s built house's 1 car attached garage...it takes some getting used to, especially with the passenger side mirror being a bit wider than the driver side mirror...and the wide door needs some practice...the first few times I opened it, I banged the side of the garage wall...

One time last month my husband had parked the car in the garage after he used it and had it waaaaaaaayyy over to the right to make getting out on the driver's side easier...
Well, it took me about 10 minutes of manuevering the car to get it out without taking off one of the side mirrors...

I have to pull the car out of the garage to let any passengers in...

We had a Buick LeSabre about 15 yrs ago (don't laugh, it was when my kids were little and I refused to ever drive a VAN) and I thought that car was wide to park...turns out the Camaro is WIDER...

Just practice, practice, and ''practice makes perfect"...it's much easier for me now, even parking in between 2 cars in a parking lot (SHUDDER ) sometimes.......

I have mine in a single car garage, and I knew that no matter how careful I was, eventually the door was going to hit the side of the garage. With that in mind, I decided to be proactive, went to a fabric store and bought two inch thick upholstry foam to line both sides of the garage where the doors would open up at. It might not look the greatest, but at least my car doors are protected.

Our "poor little Corvette" got kicked outside too...:(
We bought a '95 used 'Vette 3 yrs ago and it's been in the garage ever since...we planned on keeping that arrangement and the Camaro in the driveway right in front of the garage door....
That all went "right out the window" the minute we got the Camaro...there was NO WAY it was going to sit in the driveway, especially considering the rarity of the car...

So, my husband added another driveway next to the current one for our "poor little Corvette"...:(
Don't know what will happen when the NY winter gets here...we drive the 'Vette all year round, so we might have to keep it covered when there is snow or ice...
The Corvette has NEVER been stored outside, even with the previous owner, so I feel bad about it.........

What would you folks do if you were in my shoes????....I cannot leave a brand new Camaro in the driveway, even though it's my daily driver...
But I do feel terrible about the RED Corvette sitting out there in the sun all day and during the rain...:(

to the people who have cramped space like me, why dont yal just pull the car as far over to the right as possible, meaning you hava ample room for the driver to get out, when there is a passenger riding let them out before you pull in. If there is some getting in, pull out before he/she gets in. case closed.

Ok, I have been avoiding this pain for days now. We have a newer house, in Cali where I swear the builder got a ragin' discount on small doors for the "3rd car" garage. I normally square up before I drive in. I didn't one day and ground the paint off the passenger side mirror.

Maybe mirrors with the ability to fold in will be available on the Convertible model.

We have a one car garage (live in town home complex) and we are doing padding the walls and hanging a tennis ball. Not even going to chance having an oops.
