I have a question for all of you.. I just recieved the protection plan for my camaro I believe its starts when the 3 year runs out and it goes for 5 years / 100,000 miles with a $100 deductible. What is everyones thoughts on getting this is it worth it? the price they are asking for is$1738.40 0.0% and no Finance charge and a payment of $82.00 a month..

Actually it's 5yr 100K on the power train. Being in the car business as well, I'd say for $82 a month, they can keep it. If the cost is only $1,740 @ 0%, is should only affect your patment $29 a month (assuming you're doing 60 months). If you're plannin on keeping the car, buy it. Keep in mind you can also buy it at a later date should you choose to do so.

The GMPP I believe the OP is refering to is financed seperate from the auto. So it would not raise the monthy payment. It should be structured with a down payment and a montly payment. Completly seperate from the vehicle contract.
Also, have you priced the cost of an AC repair. If the compressor goes with 50k on the car its not under factory warranty. It would be safe to say that compressor/dryer/remove and replace labor would be close to the price quoted for the service contract. What about a electric window motor? Not cheap. And the GMPP contract is from General Motors. I don't believe they are a ripp off. I understand each has their opinion. I also understand not everyone has the cash laying around to fix what might break after the initial 36month/36,000 miles. And you are correct you can purchase the service contract after the initial purchase of a vehicle. As long as it is still covered under the factory warranty. The 36/36 portion. Keep in mind that the cost will be adjusted up as the mileage goes up on the Camaro.... Not trying to be difficult. Just another view. Like health/ life insurance not for everyone, but has its place in the world.

it's a crap shoot, they sell them to make money obviously, like insurance at bestuy for various stuff you buy. They push it because it's a money maker for them. In general I don't buy things like that. However I did buy one for a tahoe 4WD I bought in 98, it more than paid for itself. I replaced the transmission several times, starter, alternator, fuel pumps, water pump, etc. all under warranty. Now that doesn't speak well for tahoe quality I knew that going in and figured the 1K was a good bet for me and I was right.
So the question is will the camaro be reliable ? Well it's a first year car however the engine is well established. |

Thats way to much money, you can still get a great price on GMPP if you buy it before the 12 month anniversary date of purchase. Believe me you can get the same plan for much less. PM me I'll give you the guy to email, he has sold me plans for two of my other cars and he is a Chevrolet dealership. Can't beat his prices, I found him over on the Corvette forum, I also bought a Z06 from him. It doesn't matter where you live, he sells to people across the country.

Some insurance companies offer a mechanical break down insrurance.
I have one on my policy through Geico, for my camaro. It only costs $6-$8 per month with a $250 deductible and is good through 7 years of ownership / 100,000 miles. That will cost one heck of a lot less than $1,700+ |
