Upgraded Trans/Clutch

My trans broke the other night and is now at dealer for repair. I ordered the ripshift to have installed when trans is put back in. I have a few questions for those of you who have had this same problem.

After getting your car back have you had any more problems, have you launched her hard to find out.

Anyone upgrade the trans or clutch before re-installing it. It's been awhile since this stuff has been discussed. I have about 470rwhp and have read a number of different thoughts on the stock set up.

Trans blew after a 1800rpm launch from a light(didn't say what kind of light). Don't plan on doing this very often, maybe 6-7 times a summer. This was my first experience with this kind of light but don't feel I pushed it to hard. Definitely don't want it to happen again. Give me some help here, alot of mustangs got to see her trailered away. Sad day for the Camaro

There were problems with the manual transmissions snapping due to a bad batch from Tremec.

You should have been contacted from GM regarding this.

I gave my car about 10 good launches everywhere from 1500 - 3500 rpms at the track the other night and I have 518rwhp - I think you may have just been unlucky. I have about 3K miles on the car right now and it runs good.

Hope this doesn't get moved because of this question, but are you running drag radials or stock tires. Your track must be in great shape to be able to launch that high and be able to hook up. New trans should be in sometime Wednesday, hoping to have her back by Friday.

I was running stock tires - and at the beginning of the day I wasn't hooking at all. After the track had been run on a while by the big boys it got stickier and my last few runs I hooked half way decent. I would say that drag radials would definately make a difference. There have been some other camaros that have run into the 11's on drag radials and have been fine. I plan on picking some up for next year and seeing what it can do. I am sure I may have to upgrade the drivetrain sometime but hopefully not right away. Good luck with the new trans and enjoy your ride

wow you must have had something ready to go cause I've left lights(he he) at way more than 1800 rpm and had nothing bad happen!

Not sure about that. I had been playing around the day before, trying to figure out the best way to launch her. Have my new drag radials mounted up on a spare set of wheels ready to go when I get her back. Was going to go with smaller wheels and some slicks but figured then I'd really break something.

Should be getting her back today sometime, hopefully my problems are done -for now!

Got her back Friday night. Ripshift shifter was on back order, so I went with MTI's. Shifter feels good, biggest change is 2nd -3rd. Drag radials are in and heading back to give it another try.
