Unhappy Disrespect

Someone keyed my car. I found the scratch tonight. The scratch runs from my front fender just above the wheel well to the end of the door ending before the rear fender. Most of the scratch looks to be surface paint that could be buffed out. But there's two areas that go pretty deep. I think as deep as metal, and about 3-4 inches. I'm going to double check this in the morning to see exactly how bad it is. Is my best option to take my car to a shop? And anybody have any ideas how much this will cost?

That sucks big time..As for cost, it will be in the hundreds depending how many body panels it is on. And you may need a repaint on some parts if its deep.. Was it done at your house? If it was, get a security camera that is in HD aimed at the car since it will most likely happen again by the same person once he/they see it has been fixed.. The other way to protect your car is to get a car cover that is thick enough to prevent scratches.. I don't think anyone would bother trying to take it off simply to scratch the car unless they are really determined..

I'm not exactly sure where it was done. I'm pretty damn sure it wasn't done around my house. I'm fairly sure it happened at the last place I was at tonight, Walmart. But I can't be totally sure. I was at a few places today that it could have happened.

ARE YOU FREAKIN NUTS...... driving a 5th gen to Walmart is asking for trouble. You can almost bet your bottom dollar it happened there.

I've been to walmart numerous times. I park so far out that nobody want to walk to it. Never had a problem. Although I'm usually only in there for a few minutes.

We can't park anywhere in our area without taking a risk. If we take the Camaro to the store, someone has to stay in the car.

Example:

Went to Albertsons grocery store in Cleburne the past weekend just to pick up some potatoes. Wife stayed in the car. I got 15 steps from away and a pickup full of teenagers pulls up next to it.

It’s a good thing that you park out at the end of the parking lot at Walmart though. If your Walmart is anything like mine, you can rest assured that the body fat number increases exponentially the closer you get to the handicap parking spots.

P.S. -- Nothing against the biggins, they need lovin too (from some other guy), Walmart just doesn't have enough space between parking spots for their door and their butt at the same time.

There is something very empty about that huge store. It almost seems like it lacks a soul, along with everyone inside.

I got the same two Sundays ago. The scratch will need a body shop if you don't know how to fix. The scuff mark use Mequires X2.0 Scuff MarkREmover as I did on mine, I guarantee results.

Man, I have done he park waay out in the back method too. What happened to me was (and I know this because I just walked out the door of walmart and was looking at my car when it happened) The wind got a hold of a stray cart, and started pushing it. Well, there was nothing in it's way to stop it so it just got faster and faster, then it hit a little hill and started going faster! Then WHAM! :slice: Massive Dent! A Dent! NOT A Scratch, A Dent! Right at the front of the door, you know, where it is a pain to fix! :fighting0040: :fighting0040: :fighting0040:

I guess the moral of this story is this. If you do choose to park way out in the back, park it on top of a freaking hill!

Yeah, what's up with that? The whole damned store can feel morbid. My only problem is that they have the best prices in town. Regardless, I would never drive my SS to Walmart.

Moral of the story is don't drive a nice car to Walmart. Between the biggins, the jealous buttholes, and the disrespectful that let shopping carts fly -- you are bound to get some damage.

I parked my IBM RS away from the crowd at a Dick's sporting goods store and low & behold I came out to find my first door ding on the middle of the passenger door (no offender in sight). It was a pretty good crease with a chip down to the primer; in other words, it looked either intentional or extremely careless. What is it with these morons?

I'm very thankful that a Target is .3 miles from our town home. I would NEVER go to Wal*Mart because (and I hate to stereotype) the main class of people that go to WM are low income, under-educated rural people who drive beat vehicles and who have no respect for anyone's property because they have no respect for themselves. And, yes, the size of the people increases as well. When they open their doors, they push them open and the door just slams into the car next to them because they are too fat to lean over and hold the door (witnessed this several times). I would much rather pay more money then risk something happening to my car.

I would bet it was intentional. As much as it's going to worry me, I'm not going to park my car away from all the other cars. I think it makes our cars stand out more and gives the impression that we think are cars are better than everyone else's (even though they are And frankly, some asshats don't like that and will damage your car.

That just irritates the heck out of me. I hate people who do not respect other people's cars and most of them are acting purely on jealousy.

Yep, take your car to a pro and get it repaired correctly. Wouldn't worry about the cost, your cost will be your insurance deductible...anything over that is irrelevant to you so take your car to a reputable shop. The incident is not your fault so it will not/should not go against you and raise your premium.

About 3 years ago someone keyed the initials "MB" (a local teenage gang) on the hood of my G6 back when it was brand new. Luckily I had a security camera up already (from a previous incident) so I was able to see who it was. I was so paranoid and pissed that I stayed up most of the next night watching my car and sure enough the 2 kids that did it came back around 2am. I grabbed the broom stick and ran one of them down called the police on my cell phone and they came for him.

Had the parents fork over $750 for the damages.

In all honoesty if you live in a crappy side of town (like I used to) put up a camera. Mine was about $500. It uses tapes and the monitor is nothing fancy but the camera works well enough at night with just the front light on. At the store I would just park far away. At work I park in a spot next to a wall and park as close as I can get to the wall. This leaves about 4-5 feet of space between me and the whoever feels compelled to park right by me..

That sucks big ones man. I feel your pain though.

About 15 years ago, when I was a wee lad living in the UK. I was talking to a guy who travelled between the US and the UK. He had had his Land Rover in the UK keyed. He said that in the US when he had a nice car, people would compliment him - thumbs up etc.

He attributed that to people in the UK basically accepting that they would never have a nice car, whereas in the US, people believed that they could have a nice car if they wanted it bad enough.

I guess that has changed in the last 15 years :(

Ok, I'm a woman and I'm a thicker woman with a big ole butt. The point I'm getting to, even with my older cars I have always parked away from the front of any store. Due to the fact that it doesn't matter what car you have, someone is going to bump it either by accident or by purpose. But the other things in consideration, I could be the only car in the back parking lot, I will have a big-ass SUV park right next to me and that itself takes up more room then a normal size car parked next to me. So the moral of the story is, no matter how "big" you are or "small" you are, there is always going to be some Jackoff with a big suv/truck that will park next to you and ensure you cant even open the door.
