The Neverending story.

Hey guys maybe I'm ignorant but when I ordered my camaro In late July and the dealer told me 6-8 weeks I thought that was too long. I nearly cancelled my order then. Now its been over 4 grueling weeks and I still have NO numbers for the car , I have no signs that gm even has the order. I call the dealer and they say everything is good and as soon as something happens with the car they will let me know. They still don't have the the first 4 of the vin yet. They manager at the Chevy Dealer told me to "Hope" to get the car by Thanksgiving , which would be a combined total of 4 months!! When i ordered the car they told me they where putting on more shifts at the factory and making the car much faster because of demand, now I am nearly going to wait 4 months for a Black on Black 2lt rs?? I have a friend who ordered a Twin turbo BMW custom built in Germany and shipped by boat and delivered faster. So my gripe is, whats going on with the camaro plant? Is 4 months wait the Norm? I know ive heard of people who waited more but that was at the beginning. The factory should be at full steam now. I guess I just dont get it and Im frustrated.HELP

Search "allocation" on this forum. You will have everything you need to know. It's obvious your dealer is BS ing you. If the DEALER had an immediate allocation for your order you would have your car in 8-10 weeks. This is not GM's fault it's your dealers fault for not telling you they couldn't order your car because of no allocation. The plant is building at least 450 Camaros a day 6 days a week. It is NOT a production problem at the plant, your dealer can't make your car happen because he has no allocation for your order. Did he give you your 6 digit Workbench order number? If he doesn't have that, he hasn't even ordered your car in the system yet. As an example, I got my car in about 9 weeks, my dealer had an immediate allocation for my order.

If your dealer has an allocation, then your car should be built and deliverd to you in 6-8 weeks. If he doesn't have an allocation, your wait could take "God knows how long". Call your dealer and ask him for a workbench number, the sales manager should be able to get that number for you. Once you have that number, you can track your cars progress here on this sight.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me, i'll try to help as best as I can.

Wow, a Neverending Story reference and picture! Never thought I'd see that on a Camaro forum!!

If your dealer hasn't even provided you a work bench number (usually made up of 6 letters) then they haven't placed the order probably because they have no allocations. Nothing to do with the GM plant. Do what someone else said earlier and research allocations on this forum and then call around and find a dealer with open allocations and use them. When researching allocations, find someone close to you and ask them who they went through. Cheers!

Your dealer can give you the "staus code" of your order. Just ask them, it will literally take 2 minutes for them to check. If your status code is currently 1100, that means your order is in the system, but GM hasn't picked it up yet because your dealer has no allocation. If your status code is 2000, or 3000, that means GM has accepted your order and your well on your way to getting your car produced. If you are still at 1100, you may wait weeks or months for your dealer to get an allocation for your order.

Some of the great dealers who frequent this site may check your status code for you too, but your dealer should be the main souce of info....you are buying a car from them and should be happy to keep you updated on your status. My dealer gave me a weekly update by e-mail during my wait.
