oil smell

i just got my camaro ls3 yesterday and i got 120 miles on her now. when i sit at a red light for a bit or just sit in the car for a couple minutes with the engine running i smell the faint smell of like oil burning. mind you its not very strong and it is gone the minute i get moving but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? i checked the garage floor underneath the engine and no spots. i looked all around the valve covers and exhaust mannys and i see no leaks or drips or anything. the dipstick read right at the top dot of the three dots and hasnt significantly changed yet so i dunno?? help please with any similar experiences or thoughts.... thanks.

It's engine dressing burning off. Same thing happened to me the second day I took mine out. Noticed faint white smoke coming up from around the hood, kinda smelled like oil. Bout had a coronary. Got onstar on the horn and tech said if it's driving fine and no warning lights come up, I'm good.

15 minutes later the smell was gone. Hasn't come back since.

Once you break it in and start laying into it, you may smell the clutch when go through the gears. This also goes away with time/practice/etc.

Have fun!!!

Same thing happened to me, too. I freaked and called the dealer to make sure they knew I wasn't racing for pinks or anything. It's going away.

oil smell

thanks for your replies. i feel much less worried about it now. its kinda weird how an engine can smell of oil when i cant find any on the engine anywhere but i'm definitely not the big expert on engines so thanks again for the feedback.
